Is it safe to go outside w/out all of his shots? Hello all, I have a question I was hoping some of you had educated opinions on... I have put a deposit on a puppy and it will have at least one set of puppy shots before he comes home. I cannot remember what the usualy procedure is for this type of thing. I tried to search but it failed to do so.... When is it safe for me to begin potty training outside if he does not have all of his shots yet? What are the dangers of getting him outside from day one of coming home? He has not been paper trained in any way as far as I know and I want to begin right when he comes but I remember hearing of some type of danger by bringing him outside if his shots aren't done? I was hopinh to possibly skip the entire paper training thing and get straight outside with him to potty. ( I have other dogs, but they are all up on their shots) |
As long as its your yard and not a public park or something, its usually fine to let them go outside before completing all shots. |
just because my area has such a high prevalence of parvo, i would never let my babies outside without all their shots. for example the kiddos could get parvo from a bird dropping a little bit of parvo infested poo in my yard, which my kiddo could pick up, eat, etc :( i understand wanting to get the puppy started on potty training but i personally would not take this risk ;) this is per my vet and his advice. but all areas are different - so i think a well educated vet in your particular area would have the best advice :) |
I brought Jackson home at 9 weeks old and he only had 1 set of shots. I began potty training on his second day home. At first, I just put him on the porch/deck. Then I walked him in the grass. He was always on a leash with me until he had 3 sets of shots. |
my vet told me to make sure that others dogs are not doing their "businesses" where I took my baby. so i guess it's ok If she is the only one using that space. but I only felt comfortable in my own backyard, because you know that some people take a bag with them when they walk their dogs and what if they have collected the poop but there was still microcospic remains, that my baby will be smelling and putting her little face on (am I paranoic? lol) also, there is lyme disease that they can get from a mosquito bite |
Hello, Are you going to be home all the time to let him out? They need to go potty about every 1 1/2 to 2 hours to prevent accidents and after they eat. I would not just let him follow the other dogs out because you need to know if her did anything, he could just come back in and go in the house. I prefer the pads for the little ones for safty reasons till they have had all shots. If you pad train him then you won't have to worry if you are gone for a while because he will know where to go..
