'eye gunk' My Silky Terrier had eye gunk so bad, I had to bathe her at least once a week to let her eyes soak. This dog is loved and well taken care of so it's not a matter of neglect. She also is on medication for seizures, so, I always thought some of her "ISSUE'S' were becouse she was medicated. She would lick with her tougue constatntly, either her nose or her paws. Well, to make a long story short, when I would clean her eyes, it was almost to raw skin. I started watching suggestions on here and the light bulb went on. First I put vinager in her water, didn't beleive it could work, but I figured, worth a try. And it sure seems like it did, almost over night. Than I went to the Pet store and asked what food they would suggest for food alergies, I bought "Taste Of The Wild". The women discribed all the things my dog was doing as clasic signs of food allergies and said Terriers (Yorkies) are very prone to them. Next I bought eye calm, haven't received that yet. The dog is 100% better already, and a positve change in her personality. I had mentioned these things to our Vet, no advice. I owe this cure to all of you out there. The dog is happy, not as neuotic, and smells GOOD. Thanks!:) |
That's good to know the vinegar worked so well for her eyes. I love simple inexpensive cures that work so well. That's great too, you've found a food to help with her allergy problems. |
Just curious, how much vinegar do you put in the water? Also what type of vinegar? thanks! :D |
All I did was put a few drops in her water bowl, the bowl probley holds about a cup and a half of water. I'm still amazed, and I don't know why it works. Someone told me it works like an antibiotic, but, I don't know if I beleive that either. I tired it myself, you can't taste it or smell it. (I did use my own bowl :) But it really is working.:animal-pa |
Sorry, forgot to add, just regular white vinager, |

my question is when u say gunk what do you mean? My girl has just started gettin really dark brown boogies in her eyes, before it was sorta like a clearish brown but its getting darker. i just noticed it today while at home for lunch :( She seems fine but hates it when i try to put a wash cloth up to her eyes... i even do warm water in hopes it would "melt" off. But again i just tried this today i think i'll wait a few days to see how she's doing.... |

I've heard great results with the vinegar. Mine eat TOTW too and love it. Also wanted to let you know...the calm eyes is for stain removal...not put into the eyes. |
YES, the calm eyes is to Clean the eye area, I use a cotton round and gently clean around the eyes, I use a new one for each eye. I tried the vinegar but my Harry will not drink the water at all.. the girls do but he is a VERY spoiled dog..so I really don't know about the vinegar. hugs, Carmen in nj |
the vinegar is to drink? uhmm I thought it was to clean the eyes. anyway, try cleaning the outside part of the eye and the hair around with distilled water. Another member told me this and, it works really good. |

For the past 3 days I tried white vinegar the 1st day and her eyes were horrible, and then the last 2 days tried Apple Cider Vinegar and it seems to gook has lessened. Now, I'm not sure but I am hopeful! I put a few drops in Snick's water bowl. |
