How much and how often (feeding) Hi everyone, i am sure my breeder will give me tips when i pick my boy up, but i was just wondering what the normal amount and feeding schedule is for a 8-12 week old yorkie baby. I'm so scared of hypoglycemia!! I have read anywhere between 3 and 5 small meals a day is good. Also, I heard that stopping food/water by 6 or 7 at night can help with potty training at night? but if he eats at 7pm and then not til say, 7am...is that too long for a yorkie baby to go without eating? Thanks so much! I just want to do everything I can to keep him healthy and ward off any hypoglycemia scares!! |
I was just going to do a search for the same questions. Our Yorkie is 9 weeks and we've been feeding him 3 times a day. Just wanted to make sure I'm doing it right. |
Young small breed pups should eat 3-6 meals per day. Usually people do 3-4. Yes, 7 pm til morning is too long without food in my opinion. Most people leave water out 24/7. If you pick it up at 7, the pup would have to go 12 hours without drinking if he/she gets thirsty and that is way too long for any dog. I don't give water at night only because Ellie rarely gets thirsty then. She is busy sleeping. :) |
