Nature's Variety Medallions? Superpetz just starting selling Nature's Variety by me and I bought some today. I have a 5 month old puppy who weighs almost 8 lbs and a 3 year old that weighs 15 lbs. If I wanted to feed only this how many medallions should they each get a day? What is the best way to transition them? They are currently on Natural Balance Potato and Duck. I also bought the Nature's Variety Instict. I was thinking of giving them the medallions for breakfast and the kibble mixed with their old kibble for dinner. Do you think this is ok? If so how many medallions should I give them for breakfast? I've read that you should not mix the kibble with the medallions. I am sooo confused. If they like the raw I am hoping to totally switch them over. How long should I transition them for before doing this? Also do you all cut up the medallions or give it to them whole? Thanks for your help. |
bumping this up for you. |

As far as "how much/many??? I would go with package directions. If you are using two types of food (raw & kibble) then you would go with 1/2 of the recommended daily amount of each kind. If you are keeping the types at separate feedings & switching from Natural Balance to Natures Variety kibble, they say gradually is best. Start out with 3/4 NB to 1/4 NV for a few days, then go to half & half, then 1/4 NB and 3/4 NV, til you're finally at ALL Nature's Variety. Personally I've never transitioned to new foods in quite that strict of a manner, and my babies have never had a problem with any change I've made. But of course, all dogs are different.. Good luck to you with your change over. All three of my dogs love the raw medallions & have liked all of the different flavors. I'll bet yours will love it too. |
Thank you for the help. I fed the medallions this morning. My puppy loved it but the older one wouldnt touch it. :D |
I would just switch cold turkey. Some have a little sensitivity, others have absolutely no problems. Neither of my dogs had a problem and my senior collie always had a sensitive tummy. I now feed Prey Model Raw as it's more cost effective - my collie eats alot more than my yorkie! I know that Natures Variety has a spot where you can put in your dogs weight and activity level and it will tell you how much to feed. Good Luck!;) |
Thank you. I did switch the puppy cold turkey. He loves it and he is pooping soo much less. He used to poop 4-5 times a day and it was always a large amount. Now he pooped a little tootsie roll 2 times today. I am very happy. Now the older dog is a different story. For dinner I mixed the raw with the canned food (that was the only way he would eat it). I'm hoping to have him totally on raw too as soon as possible. |
