I know there's 39387373 food threads. But here we go... I'm feeding my picky dog the Dog Whisperer Puppy Food and he really does like it. According to Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble it's only 3 star though? Here's the thing, I feel bad switching his food AGAIN. But for price reasons for me as well as health reasons for him, I feel like I might as well go for a higher rated food that basically costs the same and/or less, ya know? So technically, I'm saving money. Here's my choices I'm considering switching to: - Wellness - Merrick's - Solid Gold (even though this one is a little more expensive than my liking) - Taste of the Wild - Blue Buffalo (specif. Blue Wilderness) Can anyone help me narrow it down to the best in your opinions, price/health-wise? And if your yorkies like it? 'Cause he's pretty picky. |
Really, those are all nice choices -- I like them all for different reasons. However, in looking at the ingredients and analysis of what you're feeding, there is really nothing wrong w/ it and there are no red flags. It's maybe a bit overboard on quantity of different ingredients, but that's not a red flag either. Some dogs can be sensitive to barley, but it sounds like your guy is doing okay on it. If he likes it and he's picky - maybe just keep things as is? Or, if you want some grain-free food in the mix - you could also just mix-in one of your other choices w/ what you're feeding. :) |
lol - you know you ARE going to get 39387373 different opinions :p I would not feed Wellness- since they have gone "big box store" you gotta wonder about quality control. I like Taste of the Wild- their ingredients look good- hopefully Crystal (Ellie May) will see this thread- she knows a lot about the different facilities where dog food is made . |
Well we've tried all of those except the Merrcks. We first tried Blue Buffalo and it made my girl extremely ill and we switched within days of getting it. We then switched to Natural Balance (fish and potato) which I didn't like the smell so a few months later we switched to Solid Gold wee bits which she LOVED. We then thought she had food allergies and switched to Wellness Core Ocean (doesnt smell good) and she ate it but didn't gobble it up like the Solid Gold. We are now switching her to TOTW because I always catch her eating out of brothers bowl before she eats her Wellness (he gets TOTW) so I know she likes it. I think eventually well mix the Solid Gold and TOTW because she loves both. It took a long time to find a food we both could agree on and took forever because she has such a sensitive stomach we have to change her food over a 3 week time span. I didn't think the Solid Gold was that expensive compared to Wellness or Natural Balance.. maybe its just my area though. |

Penny really, really loved Merrick's Turducken formula, but her stools were a little bit loose on it. I've since changed her to a grain free diet (Acana Provincial) and her digestive issues have resolved-- but I think the Turducken was her favorite thing in the entire universe. Poor pup! |
I'd stick with what she likes and will consistently eat. |
Max is eating Wellness Small Breed and loves it.:thumbup: I still add about a small sprinkle of EVO to it because I am using the bag up. He has been eating it this way for about 3 months now. Almost switched all the way over. I like it because it says it is formulated for small breed dogs and has 28% protein & probiotics added. I get it at Costco. |
As far as where to get all them foods you listed are available at "big box stores " now. I have seen all of them at either Petco, Petsmart or PetValu. :) No offence about the big box store comment. But I think they are all good food choices depending on what your pup likes. |
not that there is anything wrong with any of the foods you listed.. but since you asked for opinions (i PICK: WELLNESS ;)) but again.. just my opinion! ( i have a picky baby, as well) ;) |
oh and if your baby is picky & gets bored with food easily.. you can always pick a 'kind' that both you and your baby like & rotate the 'flavors' you are feeding him, every few months or so! ..as long as your baby doesn't have any diet restrictions, allergies, etc! ;) GOOD LUCK!! :) |
