Help... Pollen Allergies!?! Occasionally when excited Jamie will do the reverse sneezing thing but is easily calmed. However this week it has just been horrible. Everytime he comes in from pottying outside he is just a mess.... watery eyes, reverse sneezing that is hard to contain and the itchies! Pollen is just HORRIBLE here right now. Pollen.com says we're at a 9.7 today. Everytime I bring him in I have to comb him to get these tiny ribbonlike thing's off of his underside and I wipe his face with a wet washcloth to get any pollen off of his nose and from around his eyes. Per our vet's suggestion, I've been giving him Children's Benedryl if his itchies are really bad. Is there anything else I can do to make him feel better? |

Actually the eye drainage and the itchies aren't terrible but the breathing thing really bothers me. Since I can normally pick him up and he stops, when he had the spell and I couldn't calm him down for so long it really upset me. He seemed ok once it was over but it sounded like he couldn't breathe while he was doing it. It must be so scary for him. I know it was for me. I saw that you had a thread where your Marcel had pollen allergies around this time last year. How is he handling it this year? |

Awww poor itchy man! Jamie's itching is more pawing at the top of his head. Kinda like he's trying scratch his face. I know sometimes when my allergies are acting up my whole face itches. I gonna look into getting a hepa filter for inside the house, maybe that'll help. I'm also gonna try to convince him that it is ok to potty inside on the potty pad... which is crazy cause I took so long convincing him to potty outside! Oh well, the things I do to keep him happy and healthy! |
AH! Just thought of this and can't believe I didn't mention it before - but supplementing w/ fatty acids sometimes helps w/ allergies (and almost all skin issues, of course) bc it has anti-inflammatory properties. I use Ark Naturals Royal Coat which has the fish oil (EPA/DHA), but then it also has GLA and LA, which is GREAT for skin and atopy + it has vit a/d/e - so you don't have to supp w/ extra vit E. Just a thought. :) |
Thank you so much for responding Ann! You are such a special YT member and I'm so glad to know you! Last night Courtney cut the grass and then today it rained so hopefully the pollen won't be as bad. I convince Jamie to potty inside on potty pads for the rest of yesterday and this morning and he hasn't done the breathing thing again and the itchies and eye watering weren't as bad. SO I think on days when I know pollen is super high, I may just have to try to keep him indoors as much as possible. |
