A break away collar is okay but don't use it with a leash. If you will be using a leash it is recommended to use a harness. You can use both... the collar for tags/charms and a harness anytime you will be using a leash. |
It's their tracheas. I don't put collars on mine, my son does with his 2 yorkies(they're full grown and 5 lbs), but, when they take the dogs for a walk, he slpis the harnesses on them to attach the leash too. The collars are only used as they have their names, address, etc attached to them |
I use collars for tags 24/7, even though my guys are also chipped. As you know, never use a collar for leashing due to the trachea. For small dogs, you really must fit the collar appropriately - you really only want your pinky tip to fit through the collar and the neck area. If it's too loose, it could get caught on something. |
You can still put their bling on a harness. Just get a small short chain and attach the bling with the split rings and a hook. This way you can easily take the bling off to put on a different harness when you need to change colors. |
Jackson wears a collar all the time for tag purposes (plus I'm always buying him new collars! hehe) because he's outside ALL the time, lol. He loves going out. So I want to be sure he's tagged at all times even though I plan on getting him microchipped with his neuter. I just leave the collar on him while we walk and then put a harness to attach the leash to. |
