Bathing Brushing and Grooming Pups :aimeeyork Hello everyone :) First question is, how old should pups be before getting a bath? I gave my 12 week old a very quick and painless bath because he was looking like a wreck for a while. (Side note: Cant believe how smooth and fine their hair is! After blow-drying and brushing him I couldnt beleive it.) Also how often do you bathe your dog/pup? Does it depend on how their skin reacts, and type of shampoo(oatmeal?)? Second question ties into the first one, because I dont want to give a bath all the time I try to brush him every day. I have one two-sided brush, lots of bristles on one side and wire/ball pointed bristles on the other. They dont hurt him, I go very slow and dont put much pressure on him, but he finds it so annoying. He barks at the brush and wriggles around, twists like a crazy dog and wants to play with the evil brush making it impossible to brush his head, the sides of his face and his legs. He is so hairy and gets mats easily on his sides. When I dont brush him he really looks sickly and the hair on his head bonds together to make him look bald sometimes -_-; I was just wondering what other people out there do. Thanks in advance! :p |
Lucy (8 months now) has been bathed every 2 weeks or so since we got her. Like your pup, she has very fine hair (but lots of it), prone to tangles in armpits. She fights the brush (same as your brush) like an insane thing - it took me a while to realise that it wasn't hurting her and she saw it as a "kill game". Stick with it - grrom her very day and she'll become used to it - and maybe even enjoy it (although Lucy still doesn't really enjoy it!) |

i think what would really help is a small table top grooming table...this would allow you two hands to groom (instead of having to use one hand to hold them still lol) ... i am really wanting to get one to groom my kids but just keep putting it off ... i have seen them for as little as $40 and yes, the more you get him used to grooming the easier it will be...my kids fought tooth and nail at first and now they just resign themselves to grooming...ooh and they also know they will get lots of treats! :D do whatever it takes to get him to realize grooming is a good time or he will be rewarded when he is a good boy...treats work wonders ;) |
