Best Tarter cleaning chews My 2 1/2 year old yorkie has some brown stuff on her teeth. I had them cleaned by the vet in January, and we brush them EVERYDAY, and I give her some rawhide chews (a few different types) that advertise that they help with tarter. She is on hard food (Wellness). I bought her some "greenies" and nyla bones and she doesn't like those. I recently bought something you put in their water to help loosen their tarter. Does anybody else have a dog with stubborn teeth? Are there any toys/chews you can recommend or anything I am not trying that I should be? (don't worry, I am not a complete wack-job. My other yorkie's teeth are fine). |
Rawhides are very dangerous. Please read this thread: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/fun...ml#post2508681 My favorite dental chews are CET. My vet recommends them. I get them here: CET Chews Petite for Small Dogs (30 chews) |

I want to second the CET chews are the best, my daughter recently worked for a vet and introduced me to these for my pup and they are great. Our vet was impressed that we had already started to use these. |

It looks like most CET chews contain beefhide which is rawhide... Not sure how safe these are. I would have the vet use OraVet at the next cleaning. |
I don't believe in the products that say just add to water and it will loosen tartar, I believe a product has to be more concentrated then that. If it were strong enough to actually remove the tartar, wouldn't it be too strong to use in the daily drinking water? So beware of misleading claims, it takes a while before a company is made to stop manufacturing a product. Many people have used Petzlife, and if used properly, it is said to be safe and effective. You need to put a light coating of gel on the teeth at least 30 minutes after food or water has been given, and wait another 30 minutes till you allow food or water. This allows the gel to remain on the teeth at least ½ hour, and during this time, the product softens tartar. Many people use it before bedtime, so there is even longer period it's on the teeth. Joey's a huge fan of Merrick Bully sticks and I think they are great in scraping away tartar and massaging the gum line to keep them healthy. |

I use the CET toothepaste. Bought it at the vet. I wonder if they will have the chews. Do any pet stores sell them (in Canada)? |
