Flea Control I read a thread a while back about flea control and just wanted to tell all that Frontline was not working well on fleas and we called our vet on a Sunday and asked if there was anything better than Frontline out yet. He said they have a pill that works like capstar only it works for a month. It is called Comfortis. It does nothing for ticks so you would have to talk with your vet about something else for that. Comfortis is working great for us on the fleas. It kills what is on your dog. They will get more if they go out and there are fleas but it really does work and kills them for the whole month. I have not seen a flea on my dogs since I started using it but don't use it on pregnant dogs (I asked my vet).:) |
It's hard to endorse this product without sounding like a paid ad, but I agree. Here in Miami fleas are off the chain. Frontline and Advantage never really worked for our poodle mix, but Comfortis does exactly what it says it will,no fleas for a month. We've tried everything, but this is the best. In tests it was hard to overdose this drug, so it seems pretty safe. Not tested on intact males though and it is a pesticide so I'm using it when other methods fail and we've tried everything, diatemascous earth, clove/garlic sprays, powders, Merit products, flea bombs... |
The fleas are horrible here in our area. About a year ago our vet recommended we try the Comfortis. Wonderful product so far!! We actually use Sentinel (for flea and heartworm prevention) on the 1st of the month and then Comfortis on the 15th. The problem with either one is that they don't always last the full 30 days so it's best to overlap them. We use these for Tatum and for our Australian Shepherd. We had to do something new because we discovered that Tatum has a flea allergy. If just one flea bites her, she gets so itchy all over. This has helped her tremendously! |
 we use advocate , flea treatment and wormer combined :) as recomended by our vet :aimeeyork it seems to do the job , love jill n poppy xx :animal-pa |
I've read on another recent thread about Confortis, but it said that it was not safe for dogs under 5 lbs. That is the only thing keeping me from getting it, since I already found the first "Spring flea" on Max:eek:.How much do your babies weight? |

Tatum is right at 6 lbs. so that may be why my vet never mentioned a weight issue with the Comfortis. I'm not aware that there is one but the box does say that her dose is for 5-10 lb. dogs. |
