charlie's fur He shed when I comb him. Is that normal? My friend told me that her yorkie doesn't shed when comb. Sometimes, I find small pieces of fur inside his crate or on his beddings. I am currently feeding him natural balance duck and potatoe..he has been scratching himself a lot and licking his paws and gnawing his legs. |
Was he scratching and licking himself before his food changed? If not, then I would have to guess that he's maybe allergic to the duck. Have you changed his shampoo and/or other hair products on him? Change of treats? If he was fine before going on NB duck & potato, I would stop feeding that and go for a different protein source. |
he wasn't scratching as much before. Yes I just changed his shampoo from sergeant's tick and flea shampoo to minksheen. Treats has been changed from bacon begging strips to Natural Balance Turkey roll. I have also started feeding him a small amount of fresh green bean to help with his anal gland. His skin looks dry and there is dandruff on his fur. I washed him every week for 2 wks then switched to every other week now. He wasn't scratching himself this much before. |
With so many changes at once it's difficult to say whether or not it's the food. One way to find out is to switch out/back one thing at a time and see if you can narrow it down like that. I doubt it would be the green beans, so it might be better to start with one of the other factors. Either that or it might be quicker just to switch everything back and see if the irritation lessens. Then reintroduce one change at a time until you figure out what it might be that triggered the allergies. Does he roll around outside a lot and get all muddy and dirty? If not, I would suggest bathing him even less frequently than that. |

I would eliminate treats, and some dogs have a problem with duck. The Sergeants Tick and Flea shampoo probalby dried his skin out quite a bit. I would suggest Espree Oatmeal Baking Soda Shampoo, to relieve his dry, itchy, flaky skin. Espree Animal Products - Sheila |
