Got the itchies ... any thoughts? Harley wakes up every morning somewhere around 4:00 a.m., I take him out to potty and we go back to bed. The problem is, he starts scratching himself all over, sometimes whining while he's scratching, and will continue this for about 30 minutes or more before he finally settles down. Any thoughts on why he might be doing this? He scratches some during the day (but not anymore than the usual dog would scratch) but this early morning itching frenzy is driving me (and him) crazy. I've read on here that some yorkies are sensitive to corn so I've checked to be sure his food doesn't have corn and I've been checking the treats. I've scoured him over for fleas many times and never have found any. Any ideas ? |
Diane, Have you noticed any mosquito's in your area? My girls get bit early in the morning, and early in the evening. Sheila |
A shampoo with oatmeal in it might be good for you to get. Also my dogs take missing link its a vitamin supplement that supposed to be good. |

I have a westie with bad skin allergies and now Chai sratches at her snout so hard at mroning and night that I think she's going to make it bleed. She is also rubbing against things to scratch her body. I would love some advice too. I am going to ask my homeopathic vet what he would recommend and i will tell you what he says. |
It just seems so odd to me that he has these severe itching attacks every morning when he first wakes up and during the day doesn't really scratch that much. He sleeps in my bed ... could he be sensitive to the laundry detergent or fabric softener I wash the sheets in? I would love to figure out what the problem is. I have been exhausted since I got the little guy. First it was getting up with him several times a night to go potty. Now he usually makes it until around 4 before he needs to go out, but it takes forever for him to get settled back down from all the scratching then my alarm goes off at 5:00 (just as we've FINALLY fallen back asleep. GRRR) AND ... he hasn't seemed to learn about sleeping in on weekends yet either! |
Mine itches too. Not at the same time though. Just several times a day. I just read on another thread that itching can be caused by their diet.In particular Royal Canine. (Which mine has been on since I got her) I am going to try something else to see if she improves. Judy |
My yorkie had a nasty case of the itchies too. I was at a friends out of town when my precious Honey got into a pile of dirt. When I went to wash her, the friend only had Neutrogena T/Gel Extra. She hasn't scratched herself since! I wash her every 3 days for a week, then only once every 2 weeks. It works I swear! Roberta |
Also, about the allergies, my doctor has advised me there is an over the counter product to help with skin allergies. I give Honey a half of one with breakfast. It is called Novo-Pheniram, it is in-expensive and you can buy it without a prescription. Honey Itches No More!! :p |
Thanks for the info Roberta ... I'll have to give both a try. I've never heard of Novo-Pheniram, where did you get it? |
My vet gave me epi-soothe shampoo. I also feed a no corn dog food. |
