Concerned about male not eating enough My female went into her 1st heat on February 12th. On February 24th is when she went into her standing heat and even though they are seperated, my male is going nutso! He hasn't had a decent amount of food since then. I've offered him all his favorites (chicken, ground beef) but he has a little, then continues with his whining and wanting to get out of his confines upstairs. The only thing he is constant on his drinking. I'm wondering what I can do to actually make him eat a good portion of food. He isn't lethargic, his gums are a nice healthy color . . but he just has no interest in his favorite old pasttime of eating . . . Anyone else go through this and what can I do? |
This is typical male behavior when a female is in full heat. I just keep dry food down for Murfee, offer his breakfast and supper with rice, meat and veggies over his kibble and keep fresh water available all the time. He will eat a little here and there but nothing really substantial. If your male will still drink maybe offer him some chicken broth...that would have some nutrients in it that water doesn't. |
Thank you . . .I hate seeing him not eating like he used to . . .so after her scent starts to go away, he'll go back to eating normally again? I figure she should almost be done with the full blown heat . . .he is a little less crazier than day 2 of it . . .he actually got a full night of sleep last night without all the whining and carrying on . . . |
Yes, he will be normal again when this is over...if he's sleeping all night it sounds like you're close! |
