What is causing my babies horrible breath? A couple of days ago, I noticed a horrible smell coming from Cohen's mouth. This is the first time this has ever happened. He hasn't been getting into anything because I've been watching him closely (ie eating poop, etc). The only thing that is changing about him is the fact that he is losing his baby teeth. Could him losing teeth cause this bad smell? Has this ever happened to you? Anything I should do to help it? |
yes i think loosing baby teeth can contribute to that- watch for double layers (the baby teeth not falling out but the adult teeth coming in behind) this can cause food to get stuck and thus the bad breath. While he is still young you should start brushing his teeth daily. |
Its the teething. My Chachi had horrible breath while teething. You could brush his teeth and maybe that would help |

Yes when my Sophie was losing her baby teeth she had bad breath. It was because she had an two teeth. The baby tooth was still there. the vet had to take 2 baby teeth out. it happens alot with yorkie's. Look to see if your baby is losing all her baby teeth before the new ones come in. My vet took her teeth out and fixed her at the same time so she did'nt have to go under more than once. sophie's was all the way in the back. |
At about 6 months old puppies can usually go for the spay and at the same time they will check and remove any puppy teeth. My Pebbles had 2 removed when she was 6 month old and spayed. Bogey who was a little under 2 and from a shelter had 1 retained tooth and he had HORRIBLE breath. As soon as his baby tooth was removed during his neuter the breath problem was resolved. |
Thanks for the advice. As soon as he gets sleepy, I'll inspect his mouth and see if I can find double layering. I figured that the teeth were what was causing it. |
