Flea control pill???? :shocked7qHas anyone used or heard of this? It sounds dangerous to me. Comfortis Comfortis is a once-a-month pill for flea control in dogs. It circulates in the bloodstream and kills fleas when they bite. Comfortis is a relatively new product but early indicate that it's highly effective. Some dogs object to the taste, and some dogs vomit after it is administered, but Comfortis is the only monthly flea product that stays entirely within the dog - you and your family are not exposed. For many people this is a big advantage. |
It's pretty new, so possibly under researched. They can still lay eggs before they bite and those eggs can fall in your house and you can have an infestation. The same goes for any med though...infestation is still possible. I wouldn't say it's more dangerous. the toxins from the topical are stiil absorbed by the dog, so that could be just as dangerous. It is just too new to tell. This should not be given with high doses of Ivermectin like the injections for mites. |
Comfortis I have the Boyz on Comfortis. Pricey at around $10 a pill. It goes by weight, under 11, then 11 and over. It has to be given with food. When I asked the Vet Tech with/after, she said best right after when their tummy is full. Capstar is another pill. It's supposed to start killing fleas w/in 1/2 an hour after taking and lasts for around 24 hours. It can be purchased by sites such as PetMeds but be careful about expiration dates. |

I'm always nervous to try new products. What made you decide to try it? |
I've had my 12yo Lab on Comfortis for 3 months now. Zero side affects. He takes it with a meal, stomach's it just fine and is flea and tick free  It really helped him get over a flea allergy he developed in his senior years. PROBLEM: Its not for dogs under 5 pounds. BE CAREFUL when considering for your Yorkie! For your bigger furbabies you might consider it. |

Thank you for posting the last sentence. Prince is 5.4...that's a little too close for comfort. Thank you! |
I can't believe all the ways things are invented to keep our companion animals sick and dieing. More chemicals is all we need. It's time to stop all these flea and tick preventives. Can you imagine how much poison goes into the poor animal to actually kill a flea or tick when it drinks the blood. This is completely insane!!! Please, go the holistic way, and keep your babies safe and healthy. Chinaroad Lowchens of Australia - Ticks, fleas, bees, flies, snakes and other gremlins! And how to deal with them! I keep throwing this out every chance I get. |
I read the site that you posted. Thanks. How does this product smell? How do your dogs act after it is administered? With Frontline, Prince would roll around on his back as if to rub it off. It seemed to really bother him. |
I know that it is somewhat different, but we have Sophie on Sentinal during the summer. That works internally as well. I would love some good advice on something better than Frontline. We don't usually use anything other than the Sentinal, but this June, we plan to take a kayak trip, and we will be staying in a cabin. She could easily be exposed to ticks as well as fleas. Any other great ideas? |
Tricksie has been on it for a year and never had a problem. At first I had to put it in a treat because she didn't like the taste but now she eats anything even the pill. |

I have 3 yorkies. Two are on Sentinel and I love it with them. Alyssa, my l0 pounder is on Comfortis. She was having reactions to the Frontline Plus and seemed to itch and scratch so badly when she was treated. We had to find something else. Our vet suggested the Comfortis. We took the first months pill with no side effects. She ate the pill as if it were a treat. I really would like to have all 3 on the same medicine. Since Lucy is just 4 pounds she could not have the Comfortis. That means I will probably have them all on Sentinel. I have been pleased with both Sentinel and Comfortis but think we will just all be on Sentinel. |
