INFO: If you live in a farming comunity and if you live where you have a lot of wildlife in or near your property then yes I'd get the vac. If not than I would really think aboutit. Also Lepto comes in so many different strains that the shot simply does not cover. so your dog even if Vacinnated for Lepto can still pick up one of those strains not ocvered by the shot. I would really discuss this with your vet and make a informed decision! |

This may be a dumb question but here I go, is it a parasite or a virus... |

If the vet was clearly instructed not to give the shot then i think you have grounds for a lawsuit. Dont get me wrong, I am not a sue happy person but if it is the only way to put a stop to this then i would by all means sue the vet. |

I live in rural upstate NY, we have rabbits, foxes, skunks, raccoons, deer and coyotes that frequent my land. The lepto here is routine and needed. All of my dogs, including my 4 pound poodle and my 5 pound 5 month old yorkiepoo pup has had it and none of them have had a reaction to it Thankfully... Yes, its a very powerful shot and can cause a reaction in some dogs, however not every dog has an reaction to it. Its just like the rabies shot, some reactive bad, some dont, but its needed. I would rather have my dogs vaccinated, then worrying about them getting a virus that can kill them. I will take my chances. If they were ever to have a reaction to it, then of course I wouldnt do it again but untill then I will continue to have them vaccinatedfrom it. Im sorry to hear that the pup ended up so ill. ((hugs)) |

I agree with you 100 percent, if the vet was instructed not to give the shot then something should be done. At the very least the vet should be turned in. |

My vet won't give the Lepto to these little guys. He said unless Piper is running through the woods all the time there isn't ever a need for it. |
Jackson had a reaction to Lepto, too. :( |
Question Okay..... So what shots do your dog NEED and what shots do they recommend but can live without? I'm getting my baby this weekend and I do not want them to stick anymore needles then they have to. I live in the city so we don't have a lot of wild animals. The craziest ones I have to say are squirrels. haha. But other then that nothing else. Shes going to be in my house pretty much all day. So does anybody know what shots our puppies HAVE TO HAVE and the ones they can LIVE WITHOUT? Anybody who knows anything . . .it would be greatly appreciated if you share. Because US newbies do not have a clue |

W Jean Dodds Vaccine Protocol VACCINATION PROTOCOLS If you do live in an area where lepto is a problem, never give the lepto vaccine in a combo shot. Fort Dodge makes a single lepto vaccine (call Revival Pet) that you can purchase for a few dollars and have your vet administer. Make sure you space it at least 2-3 weeks from any other vaccines and pretreat your dog with Benedryl. Remember, it is unlikely your dog will have a reaction to the shot the first time. It is the first shot that causes the body to build up antibodies that trigger the allergic reaction. It is usually the second or even third shot that causes the reaction so don't assume if he didn't have a reaction to the first vaccination, it is safe to give a booster. |
I am so confused my vet has recommended the lepto vaccine..i have been putting it off after reading about the reactions it causes,at the same time i dont want to be worrying that he may contract something if i choose not to vaccinate...is it really necessary? i feel i am dammed if i do and dammed if i dont!!!!...:) |
