Frontline Okay for tiny Yorkie? Now that Joey is having problems with his liver and the fact that he is only 3 lbs makes me wonder whether I should be giving him a full dose of Frontline every month. We live in a heavily deer infested area and lyme disease is a very real threat here (My havapoo puppy had it and was very sick), so I think I need to use something. My vet assures me no problem, but what do people think about cutting the dose in half? Any other alternatives? |
If it was my dog and I HAD to give it, I would only give 1/3 - 1/2, however, this isn't really sound advice because the company won't take responsibility if it isn't effective and your vet may disagree. I used a whole dose on Ellie when she actually go fleas... Otherwise we use nothing but lymes isn't a concern here. I don't think it is okay to use it but it may be necessary. I really don't think it's okay for any animal all the time. The package does say that it can be effective for up to 3 months though for fleas (don't know about ticks), so you might consider giving it less often. |
I've been using Frontline Plus - kitty dosage. My guys are 4 lbs. We have deer issues here as well. It is the same formula and is a little less dosage and is cheaper than the dog packet. |
I use revolution on chester and their small dose is 5-10 lbs |
Meds Hi,I use frontline on my dogs.but give 1/3 on them.My vet also only gives my babys 1/3 of there rabies. We found out the hard way,our little boy was stiff and only his eyes moved.i gave him benadril liqued, then called my vet and he said this was what he would do also.So now after all this, our vet is now very up on our little ones........Hope this helps you,cathie54:animal36 |

The only thing is, one site on the internet is suggesting (supposedly they got their info from the FDA) that there is a pretty high mortality rate with it compared to other heartworm meds (can't really say for sure because we don't know how many people use each of these products, so if more people use Revolution, of course it is more likely that there will be more problems...but it doesn't seem that it's the most common either...). There have also been reports about dogs getting heartworms while on it. |
