Opinions on spaying? I'd like everyone's opinions on this as am unsure of what to do. I've had my Yorkie for 5 years this October (she will be 5 in August). She hasn't been spade and I really don't have any intentions of breeding her. She is never out of my sight, and if for some reason she is it is because she is in her "room" or with my husband. That being said, is it best to go ahead and have her spade? Or is it better to not have her undergo a "surgery"? I'm sure this is an ignorant question, but I'm trying to make the best decision when it comes to the well being of my dog!:) |
Spaying is much healthier for her - it will reduce her chances of developing mammalian cancer and other health complications down the road. Also, older dogs in heat have a huge risk of pyometra - a potentially fatal infection if not caught quickly and treated. There's also the added bonus of no heat cycles! That was enough for me! :D |
For as long as I can remember I have always been told that as long as you are not breeding your dog it is in thier best health interest to spay or nueter. It has been so long and to be honest I really can't remember why I am sure someone with more knowledge will come along and explain. |
