How much do you feed? I know answers are going to vary, but how much do you generally feed your yorkie? I always worry I am underfeeding because Violet (when not sick to her tummy) acts like she is starving, even just after eating. Just curious to know how much other dogs are eating. :) I also find that the package instructions seem high. For instance, one puppy food I looked at said a 3 lb. dog should get 1 cup of kibble a day. That seems like an awful lot to me! So, how much do you feed and how big is your yorkie? Thanks in advance for any responses! :) |
Yes i would like to know this also.. I feel like im feeding her too much she is 7lbs. |
Lola is 19 months old and 9 pounds. She gets 1/3 of cup of kibble morning and night. She also gets treats during the day. How old is you pup? If under 6 months you may need to feed 3-4 times during the day. Upset stomachs are sometimes caused because they ARE hungry. A lot depends on the age, type of food, activity level etc. Lola goes from the time she gets up until we go to bed LOL |
I've always free fed, so it's hard to tell for sure. When Missy was eating kibble it was 1/3 cup or less. When she was eating raw it was 2.5 ozs, now that I'm homecooking she eats about 1 cup of food. She's definitely doing best on homecooking. |
I have Oliver and Brooklyn (both 8lbs) on Wellness food and they eat 1/4cup 2x per day. :) |
So Bella is a year... do you guys usually feed your dog once or twice a day once they are full grown? |
How much Food? Hi, regarding your question about amounts to feed your Yorkie. My Yorkie, Chloe, is 11 months and weighs about 4-lbs. I am still free-feeding; however am trying to end that. She has regulated herself to eating mostly between 4-6 in the evening. I measure about 3/4 cup of Royal Canin 28 into her bowl and she eats most of it during the evening. However during the day she gets a few treats for good deeds and I will give her some tidbits of "people food" at mealtime, such as tiny pieces of broccoli, cooked carrots, crusts of bread. The size of bites of people food amounts to something like a pea or no more than the size of a marble. Eating once a day helps with potty issues. Chloe's Mom |
Follow the instructions I feed Teddi 3x a day with each serving 1/3 of the daily recommended serving as stated on the food package. I would add or take a little bit more or less depending if we're planning on an active outing that day or if he's just going to be lazy all day. He doesn't beg for food so it seems like we're feeding him enough. |
Baxter is 14 Weeks and I feed him Merricks Puppy Plate 2 times a day 1/3 cup each time. He also gets various treats (Milk Bones, Teething Sticks and Fruit... he loves Strawberries, Blueberries and Banana). I noticed he has gained quite a bit of weight in the 2.5 weeks I have had him but then again he was eating Ol Roy and was very skinny then. |
So baxter gets strawberries? I was wondering how that because of the little seeds.. so they are ok? |
I free feed my dogs, but Tucker (5 months and 5ish pounds) and my toy poodle (4ish pounds and 2 years old) share 1 cup of food every other day. They also get 2 teaspoons of yogurt in the a.m and 2 table spoons of canned food in the p.m. |
I asked our Vet about it and she said that Strawberries are fine. Granted I don't give him much at a time. They are his special treats. |
It depends on the calories per cup and how many your pup needs a day. I would go with what the bag says and give more or less as needed if you don't want to figure out how many calories they should have a day. All kibbles are different... |
I keep dry food in Jasmine's crate available for her at all times. Then I feed her three times a day canned food....she usually eats about 1 to 2 teaspoons of this at a time. I also offer her light vanilla yogurt before bed and in the morning......this was recommended by the person that I bought her from and I have not had to use any nutracal because of this. With my sweet little Prissy, toy poodle, we had to use the nutracal for hypo episodes. Jasmine is now 9 weeks and 1 day and is doing well....mommy's little energetic furball. Blessings to all the precious yorkies! |

I do beleive that puppies under the age of 6 months should be fed 3 to 4 times a day, but I could be wrong . Tucker (5 months) gained alot of weight too in the beginning, he was 2.5 pounds at 10 weeks and around 16 weeks he was 5 pounds , however he has only gained a few ounces since then, so I think he did the majority of his growing between that time frame. Your baxter is adorable!! :D |
