Four Month Shots My three pound baby got his shots yesterday. They were the four month big ones. The vet warned me about a possible reaction. Tucker didn't have a severe reaction, but he was so lethargic, and sore. The shots were given in his two front legs. Is this necessary? It seems they would have hurt less in the thigh. He is just now returning to nornal behavior. I just felt awful for him. I was also told they give the same dosage to all dogs regardless of size. Doesn't make sense. |
My pup got her 4 month shots last week. I thought the vaccines were given on the rear thigh or scruff of the neck. And I was also told that a smaller dosage was given to smaller dogs. Maybe different vets in different areas of the country have different protocol. |
They give the same dose because it takes a certain amount to get an immune response. Immune systems are the same in all breeds... Lethargy is normal. Just make sure his gums are pink. It sounds like he got rabies. For next time, because of the high reaction rate of this vaccine, it should be given on a different day from other vaccines at least two weeks before or after. That may be given in the leg (rear normally I think) but the DHPP should be given subQ over the shoulders. |
