coughing My yorkie has been coughing a little for the past few days. She has all of her vaccinations.. but we brought in a pekingese a few days ago that had coccidiosis and she caught that from her. Can anyone tell me what the other symptoms of Kennel Cough are? It's kindof like a hoarse squeeky cough. |

Copper just got back from the Vet. He was supposed to be neutered today, but I noticed that he had started coughing last night, so brought it up to the vet this am....Come to find out, he has Kennel cough. The nurse said that it is airborne and that they can get it even if they are in your house 24 hours a day....His cough is kind of hacky....They prescribed an antibotic and we have to reschedule the neutering. Poor little guy....stayed in the vets office all day while I was at work. He is asleep in my lap now...I think he is so glad to be home. Hope this helps. |
Go to vet if your dog has a cough. Mine had a little cough and the vet gave a clavamox. That didnt help and all of a sudden it turns into pneumonia! I am not saying every dog with a cough is going to turn into pneumonia, but just go by your gut. I hope the cough clears up! |
Kennel cough usually sounds like a honking. It doesn't necessaryly go hand in hand with coccidosis. Keep the dogs seperated the best you can so it doesn't get passed back and forth and get meds for both of them. While I would always recommend a vet check for Borditella.... it isn't always as bad as some might think, most of the time it can be cleared up with meds.. It really is the same as a cold for humans. It can vary from a slight cold to pneumomia. Also remember a Borditella shot does not always safeguard against kennel cough, just like human colds, Borditella has may different strains and vaccinations only catch but so many strains. I would always recommend the vaccine but never RELY on it to prevent it in entirety(spelling?) :animal36 |
