how much time between eating and pooping? My adult yorkie is fairly new to the whole scheduled eating once a day thing. How much time typically goes by between a dog eating and pooping? I'm trying to decide whether a morning meal or an evening meal would be better for her. Also - what length walk do other people typically take their yorkies on? I'm thinking Rose might like about a half mile - longer if my schedule permits.. |
The time between eating and pooping has always varied with us. Sometimes he has to poop in the 20 min afterward area that many people suggest, but other times he's totally different. The only thing that's consistent for us is the morning poop, food or no food. Just out of curiousity, why are you switching to a once-a-day feeding? As for walks, I suppose they're all different. Nikko needs at least 20 minutes a day out walking or else he starts getting too stir-crazy. Our best days have been when we take him for one hour walks, and he acts like he could keep walking for another hour if we'd let him on those days. Lauren & Nikko |
I believe its usually 45 min after eating. However, I noticed if they are active/running after eating, their poop might come a little sooner (betwn 20-30 min). I too feed Meka once a day and its for two reasons. I use to feed her twice a day... once in the morning and once in the evening, however, she began not wanting to eat in the evening if she'd already been feed in the morning  Not to mention, both her vet and groomer started to notice she was getting over weight and advised me to only feed her once a day.... As for walks, 30 min usually works for my pup :) |
I feed Maddie about 1/3 cup in the morning with a few carrot bites. She is okay until I get home about 7 1/2 hours later. However, she poops as soon as I get home. She eats another 1/2-2/3 cups in the evening. That poop usually comes at about 6 a.m. Her walk time depends on her. Some days we are outside maybe an hour, others I am lucky if she wants to be out 20 minutes. |
What I was told when I first started house breaking my little demons was that fresh food (meat or vegtables) takes about 4 or 5 hours to process. Where as dry food takes about 12 hours. Needless to say no meat before bedtime for them. All of my dogs go in the morning and that conisides with their last meal at about 6:30 pm and no water after 7:30 pm. I could be wrong, but it works for all 5 of my dogs. Trying to time the type of foods they were getting and when they where getting them has made potty training easier for me. Hope this helps~:D |
I home cook. they eat at 6 AM and 4 PM. They poo about 20 min to 1 hour after the morning meal. Sometimes they poo at night too. It is very small poo since home cooking. When I fed kibble it was poo city! |
Ellie's sometimes poops right after and sometimes a long time after. A lot depends on how many hours before they had eaten (before the meal you just fed). Any reason you are going to once a day feeding? I would really consider feeding at least twice a day even in large breeds. Twenty-four hours is a long time to go between meals for any size dog let along a Yorkie. They have to store glucose for an extended period of time. It just seems so much healthier to feed more than once. |
I have a 12-13 wks yorkie. I had him since 10 wks. He is paper trained but when we first got him he would pee in different area of my kitchen (thats the only area I let him run around). I do have x-pen for him with his pad on one side n puppy pad on the other side. No other spaces. I had to get used to when he eats n poop n pee. I then started my schedule for him on my turf. Now we got a kennel n he did really well right away. We left him in there for 3-4 hrs first time then let him outside. He pee. Then I put him back in kennel n went to sleep. I was worry since I kept I read where u supposed to let them out at night r only in kennel for certain hrs depending on their wks. When I woke up the next day and pick him up n bring him outside he did his peeing n pooping. Then I feed him. Put him back in his kennel, got ready for work n got my dtg ready for school. Let him outside one more time then back in his kennel he went. Then my husband would let him outside at noonish then fed him then either let him play a little bit outside r run in kitchen. If we see him run to his pad we took him outside right away. Then he gets one more chance outside then back into his kennel with some toys. He'll play with his toy n nap n then dinner comes n we let him outside then fed then little play then outside one last time n back into his kennel for nite nite. We do tried to trained him after he plays so he won't be too hyper. He learn quick cause he knows SIT, LAY DOWN N GO TO BED. We r trying potty n he's getting better at standing by the door to be let out. Sometimes he just want to go outside. We have big fenced backyard. Sometime he gets to wonder n sometimes we put harness on him. I put two pads down inside. One inside his x-pen n one by back door. He use them but we have both on the floor for about 5 days now n he hardly used them. This morning he was even using out in the rain. He's only about 3# r less. Be consistence. I brought wire kennel on amazon.com n it's kinda big now but we section to only 1/2. Enough for him to turn around. He haven't use it in there. I love it n the longest he held overnight was 10 hrs. Who says he can't hold all night since he is sooo young. Nope, u can trained him now! His kennel in kitchen n food right outside his kennel. I don't want him roaming yet completely train! |
I think my yorkie have pooping time 30 to 45 minutes after having food.. And it's not a big issue your yorkie have how much time between eating and pooping just see your yorkie looking active eating properly and make a proper time with you or not. |
