she ate a raisin...
 
My 8 month old yorkie Mija ate a raisin by accident last night and I know that raisins can be very harmful for dogs. She only ate one but the thing is that she is very tiny...she only weighs 2 lbs. This morning she is acting like her normal self and looks perfectly fine. Does anyone know what the symptoms would be if she were to get sick and if i should worry at all over 1 raisin?

The symptoms would be those of renal failure.
Not all dogs have a sensitivity to them though.

I think eating ONE is probably ok. But I'm glad that you're concerned-I would be too..just shows you love your furbaby! :) If she has no symptoms, I wouldn't worry too much about one raisin.

I think she will be fine! If she is not showing any symptons by now, I believe she will be ok!

You certainly do sound like such a caring owner - that is so wonderful! :) I'm sure your baby will be absolutely fine since it was just one of them that she ate, but should there be any changes in her, please do get her to the vet and also give us an update!

She would have to eat more than one and/or eat them on a regular basis.

This is good to know..i was never sure either how many would actually be harmful..my son is a raisan addict and i am always stressing if he drops any on the floor!

There is actually no known minimum toxic dose known but some reports are that 4 or 7 grapes have caused a problem and this would most probably be in a medium or large dog. In my opinion, not enough is known and any amount would concern me. That said, Ellie ate raisins all the time before I new better and she had no problems.

I know grapes are very harmful to cannies , and so raisins will be too. One little raision should not be to serious, and chances are she will be just fine

If she accidentally gets a raisin again, I would recommend inducing vomitting right away to keep her from digesting. Like Ellie May said - no known minimum dosage is known and it's probably different for each dog...and as of right now they don't even know what it is about grapes & raisins that cause renal failure. Most likely she'll be fine, but if you notice any signs of renal failure be sure to take her in ASAP
