How To Tell When Heat Cycle Is Over This is my first time dealing with a female so forgive me if I come across stupid . . . Rhianna starting "spotting" Thursday (2/12) and she was just a little swollen . . .then she got extremely swollen and she is still swollen and bleeding today (2/24) I've read the average cycle is around 21 days. Is that from the first day she started spotting? Will her swelling go down when she is finished? I'm assuming that she will be done on or around March 6th? What is a good way to tell? Thanks for any help. |
They say that it is usually 3-4 weeks. Fiona was spayed 3 weeks after she came into heat, and did fine. I would really call your vet, and make sure you keep her away from intact males! |
My Chanel went into heat on 2/12 too, I send my boy to my mom's and I called my vet and asked when it will be safe to bring Harry boy back home, and he told me about 25 days after the first sign of blood. So I am planing on going to pick up Harry boy on March 8. I hope he is right for my sake and my girl.. this is her first heat she is 10 months old and I DON"T want her pregnant until she is 2. hugs, CArmen in nj |
The vet would only be guessing. Average is about 21 days but it can take much longer. You may see dark red discharge at first and then it will turn light to clear. This is estrus...breeding time. Then she will go into diestrus. |
Thanks! I have my guy upstairs with the kids during this time and although it hasn't been extremely bad with his whining and wanting to be with her, it still is bad . . .I feel for him and her . . .they really miss each other . . .:( |
Any reason why you don't just get her spayed before next time? |
We just adopted her in December and she was already 6 months old and I wasn't sure whether or not in the future I wanted to breed her with my male. I'm considering doing so but since she is still a puppy, I have at least one more heat cycle to get through, as well as having her tested. In the meantime, I am gaining as much knowledge and information as I can, which is one of the reasons why I became a member here. |

I guess that's why I'm not a breeder right now. ;) |
Oh, its not that bad . . .my children (19 and 16) have the upstairs to themselves, so Brody is up there with them . . .and Rhianna is downstairs with us . . .then I switch them around when it is outside time . . . Brody actually enjoys being able to go for his walk without her because she races him every time and he loses . . .:p He's being such a good guy, he gets little treats daily . . .shhhh its bologna . . .:D |
