My Yorkie has bad Breadth My yorkie has bad breadth. Anyobdy knows how to prevent this? I want to treat him something as soon as possible. |
Do you brush its teeth? CET chews help too. Check out Revival Pets Website you can order toothpaste, brush and chews. Should help. How old is your dog? |
Greenies Work Greenies and Dentasticks seem to help my two boys. It may be the food you are feeding your dog. If the dog gets alot of table food that could cause it. |
If he's a puppy, it could be due to teething, when they lose teeth, they get bad breath, if he's a little older, it could be due to a double row of teeth, yorkies don' t always lose the baby teeth on their own, and the double row causes food build up, and in that case, the baby teeth need to be pulled. Usually this is done during neutering. If he's an older dog, it could mean tartar build-up. Tartar builds up along the gum line and causes gums to become inflamed and pockets form where food can build up and cause bad breath. Eventually the tooth loosens and needs to be pulled. Some of the ways in which to reduce tartar buildup include, brushing the teeth using toothpaste made for dog, hard foods and chew sticks can stimulate gums, and scrape teeth. There are also several dental products you can use to reduce tartar build-up. I use Petzlife, it comes in a spray or gel, and it is said to soften tartar, so you can brush it away at a later time. Remember, don't cover up bad breath, find the cause and correct it. |
Thank you guys for all the answers. My yorkie is 8 months old. So he is still a puppy. I dont see any tartar build up on his teeth. I did brush his teeth but not often. It's very hard for me to brush his teeth because he keeps moving and I use my pointing finger just rubbing his teeth back and forth. I hope this bad breath is just time for him to loose his teeth. Should I bring to the dentist to pull out his baby teeth? Or I can just wait and let them fall off by themselves. |

It is hard to brush their teeth, I use poultry flavored toothpaste, and that helps, and I also like the fingertip brushes, but some people prefer a child's toothbrush. Regular dog tooth brushes seem too big to me. Don't use human toothpaste, it can make a dog really sick from the sweetner in it. |
Here is the thing. I dont want my dog gets neutered. I feel pity on him. I want him to grow naturally because I dont see the point of doing that. I might be wrong because I am a newbie here. Thanks for the info though. I will try to see if my dog has double row teeth or not. Last time I checked it was ok. |

I use to feel the same way you do, until I learned more about it. Dogs don't understand or appreciate sex like humans do. Sex for dogs is a hormonal thing, and once these hormones kick in, a dog can be very unhappy if he smells a female from several miles away, yet can't get to her. He can become anxious and moody, and aggressive. Being hit by a car is the number one cause of death in unneutered males. Right now your little guy is basically the same as a young boy, however once the hormones kick in, he'll be like a teenager looking for love in all the wrong places. Neutering help keeps them a healthful happy puppy, instead of a raging bull. :D |

Thanks again for the info. So 8 months old is about time to do neutered. I saw him humping my hand alot, almost everyday. That might be one of the symptoms. I still feel bad to do this. It makes me think that my dog is not a male anymore because of loosing that hormone. He is very energetic dog by the way. I love him...:) Anybody knows how much it cost to do this? |

What I use on my Harley are Dental wipes, because his real energenic so I know he won't even try using the toothbrush.... I use the Dental Wipes to clean his gums & teeth he loves it.... Plus it smells good... |
I use CET poultry flavor and Pablo love to have his teeth brushed. I try and brush couple times a week. You have to get him use to something being in his mouth. Try massaging his gums while he sits on your lap. |
I dunno, we had a Golden Retriever once, with bad hotspots, we never got him fixed. I think he lived a full life, even though I'm sure he didn't get it as often as he'd have preferred. But, he was a laid back guy. Life is suffering, for dogs too. Just makes happy times happier. I mean, how many times do they smell steak cooking, and not get any. Same thing. just thinking out loud. |
When My yorkie got bad breath, it was from baby teeth that would not fall out and stayed loose...It did not go away so I went to the doctor last week and had the remaining four baby teeth pulled. Two of the teeth had and infection and that was the reason for the bad breath. My yorkie is one year old and so you know the baby teeth should be gone by then! |
Jk.. right thread.. haha Please read this fully. From: Neutering Your Pet Dog: Is This Very Essential? | How To Have A Happy Dog Males 1. Removes the sexual urge and the chances of him wandering off (and perhaps getting hit by a car or injured in a flight). 2. May reduce certain types of aggression. 3. Reduces the risk of hormone-related diseases. 4. Reduces the risk of anal and perineal cancers. 5. Eliminates the risk of testicular cancer. 6. Significantly reduces the risk of prostate gland problems. "they are also less likely to mark their territory by urinating in the house (testosterone is one of the major drives for this dominance-related activity). In addition, neutered male dogs are much less likely to be aggressive toward other male dogs. These behavior benefits are particularly true if you castrate your dog between the ages of 9 and 12 months, before he becomes sexually mature and develops bad habits." Spaying or Neutering Your Dog - For Dummies There is a high chance of him marking in the house. It is really fun to find pee spots on the wall, carpet, clothes, etc. NOT! I got Scruffs first at 11 months and he marked for two months (I had him on and off, deciding if I was keeping him). Finally after he got neutered he stops. He also used to do this heavy, heavy panting and drooling while sniffing a dogs privates... he would chew on male dogs parts... if his owner had gotten him neutered I would have adopted him way sooner and not had to deal with all of these bad behavior. He now sniffs and plays with other dogs normally. Even though your dog is not aggressive, marking, or obsessed with other dogs now, there is a much higher chance he will be. Not to mention you can be guaranteed he isn't going to add to the millions of homeless dogs out there already. He might escape and travel to find a female in heat, and who knows he might not come back. Rumor (in bold). Truth explained. "My dog has a right to experience sex. Sex, for a dog, is nothing more than the result of a powerful instinctive drive to reproduce. People who worry about this issue are usually over-identifying with their dog. This is an excuse often presented by men, who cringe at the very idea of castration—even though it is a painless surgical procedure being performed on their dog, not on them. Altering makes a dog lazy. Neutering reduces a male dog’s desire to roam (often over long distances) to find female dogs in heat, and altering can somewhat reduce a dog’s energy level. Altering does not make dogs lazy. Altered dogs are as playful and energetic as intact dogs. Altering changes a dog’s personality. The only personality changes that result from spaying or neutering are the positive changes described above—no roaming, less tendency to mark territory, and less aggression. Aside from these changes, your dog will be no less like himself than humans are after undergoing vasectomy or oophorectomy (removal of the ovaries). Why Spay/Neuter (THIS SITE IS GOOD, you should read through it). I hope from that you realize how important it is to neuter your dog. It is so frustrating having a dog that marks since you can't train it out of them. Please get him neutered for the sake of your dog and to prevent any accidental litters. |
I forgot to answer the topic. I use CET enzymatic toothpaste vanilla-mint. It smells so good. I use a baby toothbrush but there are specified dog toothbrushes if you'd like. I also use bully sticks and CET Hextra chews. I have tried Greenies but they didn't help with his breath or teeth staying white. I have seen a HUGE improvement with the use of CET products and daily brushing. When I first got him a year ago his teeth were so bad he needed a teeth cleaning, but I scraped off the plaque and used a toothbrush often they are now white. His breath is still bad, but not noticeable when he sits on your lap like before. Daily brushing with toothpaste is the best, not just by rubbing his teeth (which I think you said you do). |
Help needed Hi guys. I need some help with my yorkie. She has got really bad breath. She does not allow me to come near her mouth with a brush or anything. Her teath is starting to go brown. Is there some kind of food i can give her to help. Or any way i can hold her down to brush her teeth? |
If they are brown, she is probably due for a teeth cleaning. You might want to get her checked by a vet. How old is she? Yes, daily brushing will help a LOT, but you are probably going to need a vet to clean them completely. After that you should brush her teeth daily (takes 5 mins). Get some chews that are good for their teeth like bully sticks or CET chews. Those will only help prevent tartar, I don't think they will get rid of it. I just hold Scruffs mouth and move his gums with my finger so I can get to all his teeth. He doesn't like it, and knows when it is teeth brushing time. He comes over with his tail between his legs and puts his head down. Poor guy, but it is for his health! |
