Spay/Neuter and Rabies Shot Okay so my two furbabies will be getting spayed/neutered this comming Friday...along with reciving the rabbies vaccine. I guess when the dogs are just comming out of anestesia they give it to them so that they don't feel it much but so that they are also awake to where the vet can see if they have a reaction. They of course left the decision up to me, but said they find it to be the best way possible to give the rabbies vacine. I have never ever heard of it given like this to any dog, but since they assured me it's the "easiest" way...I agreed. I still have time to change my mind. Please give me your thoughts. Thanks:) |

The spay/neuter surgery is enough for them to go through in one day I would have them give the rabies another day |

I'm guessing this means that they shouldn't be done at the same time...s |

but that is only my opinion..question is how much can a llittle one tolerate ? |
No vaccine should be given on surgery day and tons of Yorkies get this vaccine everyday with anesthesia. They will be okay awake. It just may be somewhat painful for them. |

Vaccines are hard on them and their systems don't need anything else to do with when they are having surgery... |
There's no way that I would do it. As another poster said, how much can the little ones system take? I would think that just in case they DO have a reaction, you would want them at their strongest not just coming out of surgery. |
Thanks for the advice everyone. About the prepare your dogs for death part...that was a little much. I am skeptic and which is why I'm seeking advice. I was unsure if this was a better, okay, or worse means to give the rabbies vaccine. It's the first time I've had to do any of this so I'm completely clueless. I'm going to either post pone the spay/neuter or the rabbies for sure. |
