fat teacup My teacup looks like she's going to "blow up", specially after she drinks water. Is that normal? It scares me!! How much am I supposed to let her eat? |
ok first of all welcome to YT!!!! and i know this may come as pretty shocking but there's no such thing as a teacup yorkie. if you go onto search and type in teacup it will give you a lot of information. i'm not sure what it could be with her looking like she's going to "blow up". i'm sure someone on here can figure it out, good luck! and congrats on your new baby! |
do you have any pictures??? She probably won't blow up :) haha...but Stacisnyder05's dog Cosmo.....literally looked like he was going to blow up when she first got him :) ...maybe your pup is just a healthy eater!!!!! GRACIE LOVES COSMO!!! |
Let me start off by saying,,,,, Welcome to YT! How small is your furbaby? When I fist got my Gus he was a tiny little chunkie thing only 1.4 lb. But as he grew he got very skinny. I never seen him blow up after eatting or drinking. One time when grandma came to visit, she fed him a bit too much table food and he got sick,,, but he didn't get bloaded or anything. What do you feed her, and how much do you feed her? |
Welcome to YT. First of all there is no such thing as a teacup yorkie, like Megan said. How old is your pup and how much she weighs? Also what are you feeding her? Gucci is 1 yr old and she weighs 4.8lbs. I free feed her canidae dry kibble and water. Sometimes i give her natural balance meat rolls. So far she is ok. Exactly what you mean "she is going to blow up". |

when I first got chloe she was really tiny, she was 8 oz at 12 weeks. Well she would bloat after every meal. It was the strangest thing, because she would actually have a completely round body. But I let her eat as much as she wanted because I really wanted her to gain some weight being that small and also to help prevent hypoglycemia. WHen thay are hyper little puppies they need all the food and protien they can get :p. Welcome to Yorkie TAlk! :) |
Welcome to YorkieTalk, lmuller! Hi, how old and how heavy is she now? She probably will NOT blow up or anything bad. Make sure she does get her water and do feed her too. Did the breeder tell you anything about what foods to feed her and how much? As far as teacups are concerned, it's generally a marketing term, as the breed standard calls for a full-grown Yorkie to be four to seven pounds. Here is our Frequently Asked Questions page, which details the teacup defintion: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6016 Please everyone remember that we are here to educate, please be gentle to our new YorkieTalk members that are new to the breed. We wouldn't want anyone to feel uncomfortable here when asking a question. Lots of new Yorkie parents just need some guidance and we welcome them with open arms, as this is what this community is all about! :) |

Hi and welcome to Yt. |
How old is she ? You will have to lower the quantity of water she drink . As for food , you should free feed her . |

my chi one time had so much to eat she was in pain she could not move. now i have to moniter all her meals. it's so sad to see her crying asking for food. but i have to do what's best for her. if you think your yorkie look like it's going to blow up you might want to call the vet and ask if she she should be looked at. better be safe then sorry. |
Hi & welcome to YT! :) Our Toto is small and overweight by 2.3 lbs.! Our vet is constantly scolding me and doesn't want her to weigh over 3 lbs. because of her tiny frame! We have had her on a diet since last December and she hasn't lost an ounce. :( We follow the vet's directions but she is a little "couch potato" and doesn't get a lot of exercise. She was 2 yrs. in July and only eats 1/8 c. of the canned Nutro weight formula in the morning and another 1/8 c. at her evening meal. I leave her about a tablespoon of dry kibble [Yorkie 28] down and she usually don't even eat that every day! In between meals she gets tiny treats for going to her wee wee pad, etc. If I were you, I would get my vet to check that little one over and suggest a feeding regimen based on the weight and age. Again, welcome and we are looking forward to hearing all about your baby! ;) |
