Help with the itchies....... Buttons does not have fleas but does have very dry skin, and cannot stop itching. I use Minksheen but that made it worse. I switched to oatmeal and he is still itching. Has anyone dealt with this and how did you make it stop? Any help would be most appreciated. |
Could be an allergy what kind of food are you feeding |
NV raw, organic chicken. He's been on this for a year and the itchies just started about 1 month ago. :( |
Dogs can develop allergies over time and I have heard of dogs being allergic to chicken so you might want to try a different meat and see. You may also need a medicated shampoo from your vet |
Thanks, I'll call the vet right now. |
I too have heard about the chicken allergy which was why I asked, I just switched to natural balance Limited ingredient Lamb from there Organic which contains chicken but they also have other Allergy formulas that are limited ingredient this might help you and I know they do samples I hope you figure this out quickly |

Skin problems can be difficult to correct, itching causing more itching. I agree a medicated shampoo might be in order. Also make sure when you shampoo, you rinse thoroughly, many people forget this important step, and this can lead to white flakes on the skin which causes more itching. I think a good conditioner is important too, because it conditions the skin as well as the hair. Corn is a common allergen may causes itching, and you should probably check and see if the food, and or snacks you are feeding contain corn. Some are allergic to chicken, but this is less common than corn. |
Mine were on the NV chicken and started itching after 3 months. I took them off and they stopped, so I tried the NV chicken once more to make sure it was causing the itchies and sure enough they started itching again. |

Thank you everyone for all your advise. I'll give it a try. The vet is going to call me back in a few minutes and I'll see what shampoo he suggests. Clelia |

My nana's toy poodle had this problem - he had to go to the vets and they prescribed him with some special tablets and shampoo that helped with the itching - seemed to do the trick! xXx |
Hi, the vet said he wants to try hi on Atopica. It should help significantly. It is very expensive. He said the first month about $200. :0 Then around $100 a month there after. I am doing a little research to find out any side effects it may have. Until he gets it in on Tuesday I am to give Buttons 1 tsp childrens benydryl (sp) 3 x's a day. Seems like a lot but he's 7.6 lbs. I will update you as soon as I find info. :) |
