Allergy Testing Today Today we're going for allergy testing. It's being done through a blood test and we're really hoping to get some idea of what causes our guy to itch so much. He's been steroid-free for over 3 weeks now so had been scratching a lot-all day-all night. Hydroxyzine hasn't helped much during these weeks but wearing a shirt has limited the areas he can easily reach. Treatment injections are about as successful as they are in humans so I don't know how positive to feel. If you've been through this process, I'd like to hear more. |
Not a yorkie but.... I am a new yorkie owner, but i had allergy problems with one of my other dogs. She spent most of her first year of life on benedryl, steriods, and antibiotics. We tried every food imaginable and then finally ended up at the doggy dermotolodist. From what i read, the skin tests are more accurate and that is what they did on her. She is allergic to everything, dust, dustmites, different trees, molds, fungi, and lots of other things common to where we live. She has been on allergy shots for about 5 months now and doing wonderfully. She has had to do a round of antibiotics and steriods once since we started the shots because there was a major bloom of something she was allergic to. I am just glad the money i spent was worth it in the end! Good Luck! :animal-pa |
My Cali was having terrible scratching issues, we tried all the normal things, benydryl, Hydroxyzine etc and nothing helped except steroids. We had the blood allergy testing done for environmental and food etc and she came back normal on all. Vet said test's can't test for everyhting in their environment so it could be something they didin't test for. We feee grain free and one novel protein (lamb, salmon, bison) andone carbohydrate and still she scracthed all the time. I now have her on a medicine called Atopica and it has helped about 90%. It is 2.00 a pill and she has to take one once a day. Vet had hoped to get her to every other day but if I skip a day she starts scratching. I hope you can get some answers from the test. |
