licking weird things Hello my 18 month old female loves to lick my bed covers till they are pretty wet...anyone know why? She don't lick her own just my bed when I let her sleep in there. It sorta seems to me like it is comforting to her like maybe a passy. How do I get her to stop! Cause it makes my bed smelly. Thanks |
I don't know, but I'm anxious to read the answers. My first guess would be related to the product you use to wash the sheets, or perhaps a fabric softener that leaves a residue. My second guess would be she likes your scent and wants to lick something with your scent. In that case, I'd give her a t-shirt, and let her lick that. I don't think I've read this question before, usually excessive licking is related to them licking themselves, and that indicates some type of irritation. This doesn't sound normal though. |
oooohooo good suggestion...I'll try the tee and see if that is it. Oh and I wash her bedding with the same stuff and dry same...go figure. A few months back (Nov) she chewed the hair off her back legs do you think that is related too? I had he to the vet we did the 5 weeks worth of dips that worked but she is now doing it again...the dip is soooo stinky I will not do that to her again unless they prove it is mites. They are now thinking Allergies. Grrr this has been a run around the money tree and yet we still don't know. Thanks for your help Hon! |
While not all Yorkies are allergic to corn, many are, and I would check the food for this, others can give you more advice on food related allergies. What are you feeding and have you used the same food the whole time? Also, sometimes it's not the actual food, but the treats we use, and many still contain food coloring that has been known to cause allergies. I don't know if the hair chewing and excessive licking are related, but I would not want to do a dip, unless they found something. |
"Natures Recipe" no fillers or by products which is good right? Anyways she loves those Dentleys Chewrites the Rawhide chew flips. I buy at them at Petsmart. They are only rawhide I assume. You sure are making me rethink stuff! as far as her treats carrots veggies and cottage cheese. No bought treats. Thank you! Oh and she started when I had her on Nutro made with venison. So I switched to Natures Recipe by Del Monte. So it is not that brand. |
Did they find she had mange? Thats when they usually do dips. The licking the bedspread just sounds like a nervous habit but the licking of the paws sounds like allergies. My Jewels is a nervous licker also |
My Dexter licks the bedspread (comforter) until its soaked sometimes. I try to stop him when he starts but he gets obsessed with it. I know this is going to sound gross... but uuummm what do you DO on the comforter? I think my boys catches the 'scent' of my bf and I and has to lick it off. LOL ( I can't believe I admitted that on a forum) but I notice him doing it more after we have done the 'deed'. |

I am with you on the obsession part but as on the why I am just beat as to why it is better! I don't think it is nervous as in scared but I am really thinking it passifies them in some way! |
