How to clean my Yorkie's face? Hello! I found this forum by googling Yorkie forums. I had a question, about how to clean the tear stains off of my dog's face. I do not want to hurt him, or do it in a manner that might make him uncomfortable. BTW, he is 7 months old. Really cute! Thanks, James |
I bath my girls twice a week. I use mane 'n tail on their bodies, but I use johnson and johnson baby shampoo around their eyes and scrub (with my fingers). It seems to do a great job and they don't mind it at all. |
Thanks, mkbartz! We will pick up some Johnson and Johnsons baby shampoo today, and try it! Now, is it better in the tub, or in the sink? |
I bath the girls in my tub. I have one of those "telephone" style shower heads so I just use that. Did you name your dog after Denny Crane? |

Well kind of! We liked the name. So then we chose Denny. :) We also considered Allen and Jerry... ;) |

The best way I have found so far is to wet a baby washcloth with warm water and wipe away and then comb with fine tooth comb. If you do this every morning you can stay on top of it but if you let it go a day or two then it becomes like super glue! |
I bathe my boy with me when I am in the shower. I use a regular dog shampoo and just let the water run over his face. Just remember NOT to use human shampoo on your furbaby! They have a different PH than us and it is not recommended. :D |
I use Petco's Spa brand facial scrub- White Tea. It seems to help remove the stains on the fur around the eyes a lot. I got it when it was on clearance so it was rather cheap. The BEST smelling shampoo out there, |
How to clean the mustache / chin area? I am struggling to remove that sticky saliva or whatnot off the face of my 4 month old. Any tips? |
Sorry, but I disagree. I have used J & J Baby shampoo on my skin kids and learned really fast that it's anything but tear free. I would recommend to check out the grooming library at the top of the page to look to see what other people are using. There's a great section on "reviews" of different products. You will get information on products especially formulated for pets as their pH levels are different from our own. Take a look and see what other people are using and you will find something much better than J & J! Good luck and welcome to YT!! |
I just use cotton pads and water. Simple and safe to use every day. |
I use a baby washcloth that I've rinsed in warm water. He has tears probably because he's teething and lots of us have found that Gerber baby water sold in the gallon for about a dollar really helps with excessive tearing. Gerber's water is purified, meaning they take out excessive minerals and this helps with some dogs. Joey outgrew the problem, and now can drink regular water, but that first year Gerber’s water was great. |
I also use soft cloth with warm water and soft comb.I use soft brush also,is it good? |
I use Spa Facial Scrub or Kissy Face Facial scrub with a warm wash cloth. I just ordered the Espree Foam Facial scrub recently. The Kissy Face comes with a small brush and I use that as well. |
