need a quick and handy snack Jorja is my first dog. I've had her just 2 days and we are getting along famously. She is 12 weeks old. Right now she is resting on my lap after getting up to potty and play at 4 am. Excuse me. (I just yawned ;) ) Anyhoo...I want to reinforce going outside to potty and plan to use bells. What food (along with lots of praise) can I give her as a reward for good potty habits? Bits of cheese? One or a piece of Leo's Cookies (found on the cooking for your Yorkie forum)? Something else? |
Cherios and small pieces of fruit are good too |
Chachi, thank you for the suggestions. :) On an unrelated note...what is the weight range for a "Tea Pot" Yorkie? |
Anything over 7 lbs is considered a teapot |
Congratulations on your new baby :) Cheerios, pieces of carrot are good treats. You could also break up some chicken into small pieces and keep it in a ziploc bag as a reward! |
At the suggestion of someone else here on YT (I can't remember who anymore), we have started using peanut butter baking chips. We split them into thirds so they're really really tiny (just a taste), but Nikko loves them so much I think he'd learn to sing an opera for them if we asked! His potty training has been getting quite a bit better since we introduced them... The trick, I think, is to use something that is extra special just for potty treats - never use that treat any other time. Little bits of plain boiled chicken would work really well too probably, but our fridge is too far away from our going-outside door, lol. Just make sure you potty treat is the end all be all of super delicious treats. Lauren & Nikko |
