interceptor for 2 lbs. 4 ounces Greetings All!! I just got my adorable little Apple a month ago, and I'm totally smitten! Being my first "toy", I'm very apprehensive about giving her an interceptor for dogs 2lbs.-10 lbs...I mean, she's only 4 ounces over 2 lbs...I've never worried, in the past, but I've never had such a small dog...She's 3 1/2 months old, and I want to wait 'till she's bigger, but the vet keeps insisting I start now...Any feed-back would be very much appreciated...Love, Maggie & Apple :aimeeyork |
i have the same worry wit u.. my little gal is 10 months old n 1.2kg.. im feeding her the smallest heartgard but still very worry about it.. coz the dose fit even a 10kg dog.. im so worry about the over dosing on her :( |
I use Revolution for Puppies and Kittens. That includes the heartworm prevenative. My 5 lb. Rosie is very sensitive to flea meds and heartworm meds and she has gotten along just fine with the puppy Revolution. Good luck. |
I know what you all mean- but unfortunately until someone comes out with a heartworm medicine for our little ones- you need to keep giving the full dose. |
I know the dosing is scary but most Yorkies will do just fine with Interceptor. Revolution does have better dosing but I have heard enough reports about dogs getting heartworms while on it and it possibly being related to a higher death rate that I would not recommend it. |
Mine is 8 mos and 2 lbs 5 oz, and I have given her senitinel twice. The first time, she acted strange, the 2nd time right after I gave it she threw up, so, I haven't given her anything else. I hate it, as I don't want her getting fleas, and all the other dogs are on stuff for fleas and ticks. I just bough a lot of k9 advantix as the vet was having a sale on hers, but, am scared to death to put it on my little one |

Have you tried Heartgard? |
I started mine on interceptor as soon as she reached 2 lb. I only keep my guys on it march-october though |
My girls are both in Interceptor and do just fine. Interceptor has the least amount of reactions of all the meds out there and even though the dose is for 2-10 lbs, that was far better to me than for "up to 25 lbs" which is what Heartgard is. They were on Sentinel previously, but since they don't go outside to potty, I decided to stop giving the combination heartworm/flea and just go with the heartworm. |
