Tips of puppy hair has redish tint Does anyone know what causes the redish tint on the ends of puppy hair as it grows out. I have heard so many different answers, food, water, health, etc. I have fed Purina-Pro Plan, and am now feeding Nutro. Another friend feeds Eukanuba. Any Ideas-I have Yorkies |
I don't think anything actually causes this except genes. When Buddy was a puppy he was jet black as he got older his coat continually changed turning red or golden on the tips then it became more and more up into the coat as he got older. I posted a thread here a couple of years ago and a breeder stated it was known as running gold. Today this running gold is throughout his back. He almost looks like he's turning gold. If I shave him down he's once again jet black. Hope this helps you, |
My black cat gets redish tints to the her hair from the sun. I dont know if it would be the same with dogs |
I know our peroxide system, which is not suppose to get into the water...was dying my black Peekapoos Harleys face brown,so I buy water from a service now. My brothers 2 year old Yorkie has black tips.... And to think of all the money we people pay for those "highlights" |
I suppose it could be many things but I think it's genetic. I have a brother and sister from the same line and they both showed a reddish tint at about 6 months that lasted until about a year or so. It wasn't that pronounced but could easily be seen, especially in the sunlight. After that, they both showed a beautiful steel blue color. The sister is spayed (she's only 3 pounds) but the brother has sired pups and they did the same thing. |
I just re-read my post and realized how stupid it sounds. Of course they're from the same line.....they're brother and sister . Anyway, what I MEANT to say is I have a brother and sister from a line that shows a reddish tint for a while. |
