At what age did your baby go into heat? First let me say I do not plan on breeding my babies. I lost my job and am still unemployed so I have not had the money to get my girls spayed. I do have a male and I have been keeping him away from my girls since they were 6 months old. They are now 9 months old and still have not gone into heat. I hate keeping them apart but don't want to take the chance of them breeding. How long does it usually take for them to go into heat? Betty |

I personally don't know. I'd like to know the answer too, Gwen is 9 months old so I'm on the look out lol. I know with my other 2 big females they didn't until 11-12 months old b/c they went into it when they were going in for their spay since I had changed vets and had to wait to get in for surgery. |

Good question! I hope this helps. First - it depends on the size of your baby and it depends on the generations it came from. One of my girls is just shy of 5# and she went i her first heat at 10 months. another of my girls is just shy of 4 and she went into heat at 13 months (first heat). :) |

Every dog is going to be different. I was supposed to have Fiona spayed on 11/4/08, which would have made her 7 months old, which I didn't want to wait that long, since your typically supposed to get them done by 6 months, however, that can change on weight and what not, so of course she turned 7 months on 10/29/08 , and came into heat on 11/1/08, so we had to push her spay back until 11/25/08 and she did fine. |

1 Attachment(s) Both of my girls are from the same litter. Ceci is a little under 4 lbs and Angel is almost 8 lbs. It is funny because they are both the same heigth. I don't notice that Angel eats more so I just tell her she is big boned. LOL Ceci is in green and Angel is in white. |

My hubby bought them that bone when we were on vacation. I told him it was to big but they managed to pick it clean. Betty |

Georgia - as a rule the bigger the earlier but rules are meant to be broken. She is a good size to hit around 7-8 months for her first season. I always asked my breeders when the momma's went in to their first to so if your breeder his handy it's nice to know. Also - my males always let me know when the girls will go in heat about 2 weeks prior to heat occurs. They will be just a sniffin away at their bottoms for two weeks prior. My girls even sniff each others that far in advance. It's another sign to watch for. |

Betty - YOU think it's too big but have you broke the news to them that they aren't 70-80 lbs? I am keeping that a secret with mine! *nudge* |

Chloe is 10 months and just went into heat yesterday ( well I just noticed two tiny drops of blood on her blanket then) I will most likely have her spayed after this heat , when I get her teeth removed. |
