Liver Shunt?????? Hi there! Just got our 2nd yorkie girl 1 week ago from a private party who could not keep her due to not being home enough. I was just looking at her vet records today and was curious about something. Our new baby is 13 months old and was to the vet in December for being sick and not eating. I was looking at her bloodwork and the ALT level was 68, albumin 1.7, platelets 600, and the WBC was 22.68. I understand the white count being elevated if she had an infection. She is very tiny 3 pounds but a fragile 3 lbs, if you understand what I mean. She very picky with food. With the bloodwork as it was could that be an indicator of liver shunt? She doesn't act strange or anything. I'm sure I'm being overprotective but I sure could use some advice. |
The ALT is normal if it was sent to Idexx. What was the BUN and Bilirubin? You could always bile acids test to rule LS out. It couldn't hurt and then you'd have your answer. |
The total bili was 0.2 and the BUN was 24. |
The lab report shows normal ALT levels between 7 to 35. |

Any Yorkie with high liver enzymes should be bile acids tested, especially with those symptoms. |
I just called my vet and they said they don't do bile acid testing. Is this something that we need to go to a specialist for? Do you know how this test is done? Thanks! |

I'm sure this could be anything but with her being so frail and small. I'm just nervous. Does it sound like liver shunt to you? I'm very new to these health problems. Our other yorkie hasn't ever had these kinds of problems. |
