Please give me advise...Nutro issues I read about the several Nutro issues. I've been feeding my gang this for about 3 months now. What should I do?. I haven't had any problems yet,and they love the food and training berry treats.Do I choose yet another comercial dog food, that will be recalled next month? It's such a challenge to keep switching..little at a time so they don't get an upset tumy, and then they get so weird with liking many foods. They loved Iams, but we all know that storey. Maybe I should look into making my own. My issue is I want them to get the nutrients they need. My schedule is busy, but I will never sacrafice the health of my babies. I am so confussed about what to do .Please I need the YT support and knowledge to make this choice. Thanks ahead of time. |
I know its frustrating changing foods all the time but I wouldnt feed nutro with the reports of dogs getting sick and dying from it. I just dont trust the company. I understand how you feel though because mine used to eat Nutro and liked it also |
Honestly, no way would I give this food. I would sooner feed grocery store brands. With all of those reports and no recalls, something is wrong somewhere. I think a lot of those dogs had been on it and then bad things started to happen. If I read those reports about something I was giving Ellie, it would be in the trash. With homecooking, you do need a few hours monthly to cook and it takes more time to feed than just giving a scoop of kibble. The nutrients aren't a concern if you talk to a nutritionist. It can be quite pricey. It isn't for everyone... |
I agree homecooking is good and time consuming I agree it is very important to talk to a nutritionist and read read read, my vet said it was okay to feed Roxy ground turkey or chicken ( she gets hyper eating beef) and either rice or white potatoes and green beans or green peas as long as I give a vitamin. Now I find that the vitamin/supplement has to be specific also, not just any doggie vitamins. I have rec'd a lot of good advice from YT and now give Roxy vanilla activia in addition to her vitamins. I now understand from YT'ers that I need to supplement phosphorus and calcium, the vitamins have that but are not specific about how much my baby needs- it only lists what % is in the vitamin-that's no help! I am looking into using something called missing link in the next few weeks. Anyone ever use it? |

I didn't hear about the Nutro problems. This is what we feed our babies. I always trusted this food to be good and the babies love it. Now I am worried. Do you have a link? Any advice for a good safe food? Thanks. |

Natura foods I would never feed nutro. I am a big fan of the natura pet food company www.naturapet.com which has a food comparison chart that can help you learn about food ingredients by clicking on each ingredient. Innova is my favorite, its a great balanced diet. EVO is a grainfree high protein diet, some do great on this while it is too high in protein for others. California Natural is a food that many yorkies do great on! It is for dogs with food sensitivities and allergies, keep in mind that food allergies can cause itchiness and dry skin. I also am a big believer in supplementing with a high quality canned food. Just a spoonful or so mixed in with the dry food. Canned food adds moisture back in their diet. Their bodies are like ours in the sense that they are made up primarily of water. It cleans their mouth as they eat. Fresh ingredients are always good for them. Think about it... Do you think you would have the healthiest diet if you just ate the BEST cereal (DRY) you could find on the market with 100% of your recommended vitamins and then drank water? Good luck! |
ohh no No No No, switch fast!!! I had peanut on nutro, horrrrible!!! I switched him to innova evo red meat. He is doing great on it and its a great food!!! I think anything would be better than that food!! If you read the consumer affair website you will switch foods realy fast!!! Its crazy I was at petsmart getting pnut a new kong and the lady in line was talking about nutro, and the cashier was telling her how great nutro is and she should buy some and blah blah blah....well I just HAD to give her my 2 cents and I told the lady that the food is hooooorilbe and she should check out the website and she will understand!! (the cashier got a little mad) then the customer left and it was my turn to pay and the cashier was like " why do you hate nutro so much" its a great food!!! I was shocked I asked her if she had animals and she didnt, but she asked me why I hate that food so much and I told her about the website and that she should read it before she tries to sell it to customers that know nothing! Its sad... |
p.s p.s with all the foods that yt recomends...innova evo, blue buffalo, natural balance, wellness.....the list goes on but some of them you can find at petco and the rest you have to get at a pet store, but my petstore gives out samples.. or look on the foods website, that way you can find a GOOD food that your furbabies will like without spending a lot of money :) just look around you will find something. good luck!! I know what you are going thru I had peanut on like 6 different foods till I found innova evo!! whew I am glad its over!! GOODLUCK |
