Help - my babies are pooping ALOT!!!! I've been reading on several threads here that the fillers in lower grade commercial dog food often results in our babies pooping ALOT! After doing much research about the best food for my babies, I finally found and am thrilled with the quality of The Honest Kitchen. My babies love it. It is human grade food and every batch is taste tested by people. It got lots of approval from the folks on this site, and I don't have to worry about nutrients and balancing their nutrition any more. It is grain free and no junk. I feed them the Force. So how come they are pooing so very much? I was under the impression the better the food, the less they need to eliminate because there is less "junk" in their food. But my babies are pooping their little hearts out. Help. What gives? Anybody have any ideas? They appear healthy and full of pep and energy. |
This thread may be of interest to you as it talks about a lot of poop, and also a lady feeds her yorkies Honest Kitchen - check it out ;) http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...diet/116748-do es-anyone-else-s-yorkie-poop-tons.html |
Carmengamble, Thanks, but- Clicked on your link but I could not find the thread you were referring me too:confused: |
Carmengamble--Sorry, I did a little more research and I did find the thread. Thanks. Would still like to hear more from others about "tons of poop" with THK. I don't think there are any fillers in this food. It is supposed to be excellent for them. Human grade. Where is all this poop coming from? I feed them the dehydrated Force, with added protein, fruit or veggies, as recommended by THK. It's an avalanche!!!!! !!!!!!!!! |
Awhile back I tried giving Snickers THK in little batches to see if he would eat it. He immediately began pooping up a storm. I was sad b/c he did like it. But with all that poop, I could not deal. I was spending more time going to the door to let him out than playing with him. It could be something in the food-I fed Embark and I know broccoli was in it and I could see Snicks poop was green. I think just like people, dogs have reactions to certain foods. Many of us have much more gas when we eat beans:D and the runs (haha) so maybe its an ingredient in THK that makes them poop so much!!?? Sorry I am not much help but wanted you to know I experienced the same. There are a few friends on here who feed it, I'm sure they will chime in soon. After THK I tried NB for about 2.5 weeks and his poops were weird on that as well so now FINALLY using EVO (canned and kibble) and am getting great little poops!!:D I'm sticking to it. |
Can you post the ingredients of the exact food you're feeding? |
If a dog is pooping more than 3-4 times a day and it continues, the food should be switched IMO. Even 4 times a day is too much for most. |

We are in the process of changing back to EVO Turkey & Chicken. On NB and Wellness Small Breed, Max has been pooping twice as often and twice as much as compared to when he was on EVO. |
Hi all!!!! Thanks everybody for your excellent feedback. I do not think they are pooping more than 4x a day. I have not been watching them very closely as my mom came down with lung cancer and I am her full time caregiver. My father has dementia, so my hands are FULL- so to speak (LOL) So for a short while I am not monitoring them as often as I should. They potty indoors on an indoor potty system. I believe when they poop, they poop ALOT, but I do not think it is more than 4x a day. I could be wrong I guess. Just to clarify. :) Shellie When I have time I'll send you the ingredients Ann. Thanks so much for your feedback!!!!! |
Hi Ann This is the ingredients they have on their website for the FORCE. I threw out my box, but I'm thinking the ingredients are the same on the box as on their web site. Thanks, Shellie |

Sooo, I mean you could give it a bit of time to see if their systems adjust. Otherwise, my first thought would be to find something w/ less quantity and variety of veg. :) |
Thanks a lot for getting back to me. Maybe I'll try a different kind of THK. I'm not sure if any of their foods has less veggies. Really do love their food though, so good for them, all nutrition included, so I would really like to stick to it, as long as they are healthy. Will wait a bit to see if things improve. I'll talk with my vet and also see if they have a product with less veggies. Thanks again for your great input. Shellie:D Quote:
