Watery eyes Hi Guys, Emma, my 3 month old baby has watery eyes. The hair under her eyes seems to be wet most of the time. I've asked the vet and he says maybe dust or hair in her eyes. I cut the hair around her eyes and she still has the problem. Has anyone else had this problem and if so did you come up with any solutions? Thanks, Emma's Mommy :aimeeyork |
Very common in Yorkies...Some more then others...My babies have it too...No need to worry...I just use a baby wipe and a soft toothbrush to clean under their eyes daily...:) |
Joey's eyes did this when he was a puppy. I read that distilled water helped some dogs, so I tried it. Within 1 week there was no tearing, and we kept using the distilled water. One day I noticed the tearing was back, I asked my husband about it, and he admitted he had given Joey regular tap water. Switched back to the distilled and the next day, the tearing was gone. Once a month I would test the theory and go to tap water, again the tearing would start. Finally, I can't remember the age, I know it was under a year, but I switched to tap, and he hasn't had the tearing again. I used the distilled water from Walmart, it maded to add to baby formula, so it's safe for drinking. Not all distilled water is considered safe, and some says, "do not drink." Water meant for drinking has to be packed in the right type of plastic, and has expiration dates, regular distilled water used for equipment such as steam irons, does need these precautions. Look for the words "distilled", this means all minerals have been taken out, and don't get the kind with "added minerals," as this defeats the purpose. |
Tyke had this problem. I used the distilled water and it helped but didn't go away all together. Then like your vet, mine also told me that all that hair in their eyes can cause it. I keep his hair trimmed and with the water it seems to help. It is getting better, but i was told on here sometimes they outgrow it. He's 8 monthes old now, so that may be why is getting better or because of these 2 things i'm doing. but he still does it some hope this helps |
Bailey never had a problem with it until this winter. I tried distilled water- and that is helping! Also, the groomer trimmed around her eyes, too. Its under control -but there is still some tearing. I read somewhere that eye lashes can cause some tearing...??? |
Watery Eyes Ernie also had this problem. I took him to the vet and they diagnosed him with Asthma. They said often times watery eyes can accompany this. He gets aminophyllin daily now which appears to help. Although your baby may not have this because along with the watery eyes he was also coughing. But this distilled water also sounds like a great idea! |
