just found out my baby is from a puppy mill  after reading about puppy petite (where i got Louie from) i am terrified that my baby who just turned 3 months will become sick... is there anyway i can start trying to make my puppy healthier? this is my first pet ever and im still young ... just 18 and i obviously dont have that amount of money for hospital visits... any advice that will ease my mind? i have been really depressed after reading all the negative posts on puppy petite...:cry: |
Not all puppies from puppymills end up being unhealthy. Good quality food, plenty of exercise and regular vet checks will keep your pup healthy |
do you suggest any specific puppy food for Louie? im so new to this puppy thing... |
My Harry boy came from a BYB, I did not know any better that was 6 years ago and I wanted a yorkie pup so bad, that I chose NOT to see all the bad signs, right now my boy is a healthy 6 year old, with the correct diet and exercise and a regular yearly vet check you can keep your pup healthy. hopefully that is the case with your pup. hugs, cArmen in nj |
I agree that a good diet, exercise, and vet checks are extremely important to make the most of your dogs health, however, they will not prevent the genetic diseases that are rampant in poor breeding. You need to become aware of such illnesses as liver shunt, and know the symptoms, so that if your dog is affected at least he will be able to be treated as soon as possible, lessening the damage. Here are some of the illnesses affecting Yorkies, some are genetic, and others are viral. Yorkshire Terrier By the way, most of us have had dogs that were that result of poor breeding, and that is why many of us have become advocates for responsible breeding. Best of luck with Louie. |
I would do a search on here on foods. There are alot of good brands and you can get alot of good info |
thanks soo much guys ! i feel a lot better.. =] |

At the top of this thread is all the information you will need to know regarding a good quality food. There are three stickies that are there to guide you. Good luck with you puppy. Not all puppies are sick that come from puppymills and BYB. |
Welcome to YT :wavey: You've gotten some good advice. Just love on Louie and keep him current with his vaccines, use a good vet and think about the people and dogs you expose him to. Sometimes we want to take our furbabies with us, but also think about if doing so is the best choice for him too. |
Just relax. I agree with the others. Although coming from a puppy mill is not good it doesn't necessarily mean your puppy will be sickly. Find a good food with no artificial preservatives, do your research on over vaccinating, etc. |
Welcome to YorkieTalk. Everyone has given good advice. There is a ton of good info on YorkieTalk (YT) and members will respond quickly to your questions. Louie is a good looking little guy. |
