Dog Insurance, Your opinion, please? Dear Yorkie Owners, What do you think of insurance for your pet? Do you have it? Has it been worth it? My new baby enters our family on Valentine's Day, and I am wondering if it is a good idea. Best regards, Elizabeth & Sugar |
Pet insurance Hi, I am not sure how insurance works in the USA, but here in England you have to very careful. Some companies will only cover any one illness for 12months. So if your pet gets something that goes on, they wont cover it. My 2 Yorkshire terriers have skin probelms and after the 12 mths was up the company wont pay another penny towards anything skin related. So be careful. The cheapest is certainly NOT the best, are I found out to my cost. Good luck |
I personally don't have it, but I am thinking about getting it when we move. I know there are different amounts of coverage based on the plan you decide to get--like some will cover emergencies/accidents/etc. and then you add on preventative care--your vaccines/heartworm/flea meds. I know this one is used by a few clients at the clinic I work at Veterinary Pet Insurance (VPI) - Dog Insurance, Cat Insurance, Pet Health Insurance and this is another one that we are giving info on Pet Insurance for Cats and Dogs - ASPCA Pet Health Insurance Both give free quotes, I am not real familiar with how long it takes for them to pay you. I do know that you pay for the services, bill the company, and then they reimburse you. My only concern with it, is if your pet gets hurt--you still need to have the money to pay for the service now(which if it's a $2000 surgery, most don't have that kind of cash laying around). We also take carecredit, so us tech's were thinking it would benefit to have both--bc the carecredit is interest free up to a year--that way when the ins. kicks back your $, you can put it on that bill. Good luck making your decision. |
I have VPI for my dogs and I love it.. when Prada broke her leg was a god send.. is really an individual decission but I am very happy with it and gives me peace of mind in case we run to any emergency. hugs, CArmen in nj |
I have VPI for Buddy. I been paying for 4 1/2 yrs and have not used it once. But that's a good thing. That's actually what insurance is, a gamble. You pay monthly, hope you don't use it but if you have too it's there. I'm actually afraid of cancelling it at this point. Afraid of jinksing myself I think.:( |
