Get her to a vet. She may need a steroid shot. Do you treat for fleas? Sh e could be have an allergy. My Buttons was like this for 3 weeks, the vet gave him a steroid shot and and antibiotic shot. He has been itch free for 2 weeks now. :) Good luck, keep us posted. |
Welcome to YT! :wavey: Sorry your girl is having so many problems. I would go to the vet to see if you could get immediate help. Also, a bath in a good oatmeal shampoo & conditioner or something designed to treat itchy skin will help give some relief. This is a good choice - and an amazing price right now HyLyt Shampoo (8 oz) and this rinse Relief Creme Rinse - 8 oz After the vet and the bath, I would look at her diet - she may be allergic to her food. What are you feeding her? Make sure that food doesn't have corn in it - this is one of the biggest allergens -- but there are others too. |
If the skin is breaking and turning black - you really do need to get her to a vet asap. If she develops a staph infection from the broken skin, she could die. Please keep us posted! :) |
try hypoallergenic food. |
I had this problem with my other dog (a westie) and after allergy tests, shots especially made for his allergies with no permanant good results , I accidently cured it by changing his food to a grain free kind. ( I use Evo grain-free ) No more itchies, no more "hot spots" and his coat looks better than ever! Also I try children's benedryl before i would resort to steroids. They make mine pee like a racehorse and if overused can have nasty side effects on the kidneys. I would only use them if nothing else works. Has the vet seen this on your dog?:aimeeyork |

How did the vet diagnosis the food & shampoo allergy? I hope you can get things straightened out quickly for your girl. I would recommend that you do some reading about dog food. There are many better choices than Eukenaba. I know the vets encourage this - but often it is because they are selling it. Here are a few things you may want to read Dog Food Report The Dog Food Project - Dog Food Label Information 101 The entire Dog Food Project site is very interesting This is a site that rates foods - remember that it is someone's opinion. But here you will find a list of ingredients for just about every dog food made & available in the US. I would recommend finding a 4 or 5 star food off this list. Some people will use a 6-star -- but many think those are too high in protein for a yorkie Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble Here is a thread with info on contacting a lot of companies for free samples. I emailed most of them. You will be surprised how generous they can be about sending out samples http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...e-samples.html Also, homecooking is a good choice for a lot of people - that way you have control over what your dog is eating.
