Ear infection I am a new user so forgive me if this topic was discussed before. About two weeks ago my Yorkie had an ear infection. The vet gave him Clavamax (antibiotic) and also twice a day treatment of Otomax. After two weeks I stopped the antibiotic and Otomax treatment and 2 days later his ears appear to be warm and pinky. It looks like the infection is coming back. He started to scratch his ears again. Not as before though. I was sure that after this kind of treatment he will be OK for a long time. What should I do? Does anyone have the problem like this? I think about some kind of allergy but to find out what allergy he has may cost around $500. |
Ear infections may be caused by different reasons, and depending on the reason the treatment will vary. Mojo had ottitis and all he had as a shot and a drop 2 times a day for 7 days, it did the trick. I know vets can run some exams to find out the cause and determine th treatment...but be careful. a ear infection that is now properly cared for will only get worse and even cause permanent problems for the dog. I hope you find a solution soon and that it doesn;t cost a lot, so you and your puppy can feel better! Good luck and welcome to yorkietalk! |
Tresaderm hi - tresaderm (we got from the dog dermotologist works very good on the ears). better than ottomax |
perhaps the antibiotic that was used did not cure the infection. Have your vet culture the ear to find out the specific bacteria that caused the infection. perhaps this bacteria is resistent(not effective) to the antibiotic prescribed. 2 days seem to soon for this to reappear if the antibiotic was useful at all. I think its to early for allergy question..........first find out the source of infection....perhaps yeast or mites are involved... |
