canned/dry mix I know some people feed their dogs 1/2 canned and 1/2 dry and was just wondering the reasoning, if it's better, does it upset their tummies, do you feed two different brands, and how do you do it (mix at once or canned in the morning then dry at night, etc)? Just for curiousity sake. |
I do that I first started mixing canned to get my picky eater to EAT. I have recently found out that this had even greater benefits than just that. Dogs bodies are made primarily of water, just like ours! Many tire of the same thing every day/every meal, just like us! (They also vary just like us. My husband can eat the same thing over and over, I cannot.) Dogs naturally, typically do not drink enough water. So, by adding a HIGH QUALITY canned dog food you are giving them FRESH food with water in it. You are providing them with the moisture that their bodies demand. You are also helping them clean their mouths as they eat. Rarely do dogs stop eating a bowl of food and take drinks between bites as they eat. And, if you dog one spoonful of one flavor in the am and a different flavor in the pm, you are adding variety which they love. Think about how you would feel if you ate the best cereal out there (Total or Special K or whatever) that had 100% of the vitamins you "need" DRY with only water to drink FOR EVERY MEAL. You would lose all the benefits of fresh foods, your mouth would get dry while eating, you would probably tire of your food. So, IMHO, supplementing dry with canned is WONDERFUL. I feed Innova dry and Innova Flex canned (chicken in the am and beef in the pm). |
I have to mix the smallest amount of canned into Snickers' kibble or else he will not eat. Little bugger!! Sometimes if he fills himself up enough, he will just lick the canned off the kibble, thats why I can't put too much. But he does enjoy it which makes me happy. He is already getting tired of his duck/potato NB with Evo duck canned. So tonight he is getting venison/Spotato and canned Evo venison. I'm actually excited b/c I know he will be. The only thing that stinks is NB venison does not come in small bites, so I need to hammer ir into smaller kibble...geez! The things we do for our babies...but he is my baby, so really I don't care. Ps. His poops are a bit more loose...but I don't care...HE IS EATING!!! -Viv:animal-pa GOOD LUCK:) |
