8 weeks and fleas... My 8 week old yorkie has fleas. What can I use to get rid of them? I only have access to Walmart today. Thanks. |

8 weeks is way to young to give any treatment for fleas. The ONLY thing you can do is give a bath is Dawn Dish Detergent. Someone posted to do it this way. Bath in the sink and wash off the body with water. Then lather him up real good with Dawn Dish Detergent. Wrap him in a warm dry towel for about 5 + minutes (giving the time for the fleas to die). Then rinse him off with water. Then use a flea comb to get off any remaining dead or alive fleas... Best of Luck :) |
Do a Google search on "puppy fleas". I did and found a treatment to be bathing the puppy in warm water with Dawn dishwashing detergent. After bathing & drying, comb out the fleas. I'm not sure what the concentration should be. Get Rid of Fleas on a Puppy PS: I noticed that TLC replied similarly while I was typing. |
That is so young to have fleas. I tried the dawn detergent and it didn't work for me. I would check every day and kill them but you have to treat the home. Do a search on safe ways to treat fleas. |

If you do use a commercially made product....please watch for signs of Allergic reaction!!! We had a reaction occur to our friends little baby and it was very scary...she started acting lethargic....wouldn't stand up very well... So we had to rinse that stuff off for over 5 minutes and give her benadryl and nutrical......And then RUN her to the VET! So please just be cautious...because there is always the potential for adverse reactions! |

PLEASE DO NOT USE ANY FLEA/TICK TREATMENT FROM WALMART! HARTZ PRODUCTS HAVE KILLED PUPPIES AND CATS! 8 weeks old is too young to be using anything on your puppy. I would just get some dawn dish soap, dilute it and just rinse your baby in that.... |
Mine had fleas at 6 weeks when i got him:eek:. yes i know not good. but the vet gave him advantage, its for 6 weeks and up and under 5 lbs. It worked like a charm. and i still use it to this day! renae |
I've heard the dawn works wonders, but if you'd feel better call your vet, and ask for some advice. |
I would use a fine toothed flea comb and comb him. Have a small disposable container with alcohol to drop the fleas in. Comb through his hair several times a day. Treat your home for fleas..... If you are going to give him a bath, please be very careful and don't let him get chilled. A cold tiny pups is a recipe for disaster. |
dawn dishwashing soap, anything else would be to toxic. I heard fleas shmapoos when they are older are not good as well. Get a flea comb vacum everything and dispose of the bag, they will jump out. |

My friend contacted the Hertz company and they were not very friendly or helpful when she explained what happened. I would do what the "lifers" here said with the dawn detergent. That sounds safe.:animal36 |

The only hertz product i will use is puppy shampoo. I had some idiots put dog hertz flea/tick treatment on a cat, and it was horrible. I hate that company, and they should be shut down! |
You also need to treat your home or this will not work. The fleas will return. Not sure what is safe to treat your home with. I dont have fleas. Knock on WOOD. Maybe someone can give your a safe home remedy. |
