NB Sweet Potato and Duck or CN Herring and Sweet Potato Anyone have a bad experience with either? Have you found bones in the CN? Lots of sttool with either or have you found them to be too rich? |
Ellie... I actually am worried NB Duck and Potato is not rich enough. Duck is not the 1st ingredient, Potato is. And protein is only about 22%. I am currently using the canned NB Duck/Potato as a topper but I also notice that is packed with potato mainly (by my observation) even though duck is 1st ingredient for the canned. I was JUST looking at picking up Evo's 95% duck canned as a topper. I'm scared its too much carbs for Snick with all that potato. I am rotating him 2 weeks duck/potato and 2 weeks venison/Spotato. I am also getting the 95% venison Evo makes for that alternate week. I hope I am hiving him enough protein. So far good small compact poops...he goes between 2-3 times a day. -Vivian:animal-pa |
TJ and Roxy were on this for a few months....but it was way back in 2006 - no issues then ;) |

Nicole, which one did you use? NB? I want to add two more to my list above: NB Venison and Potato SD D/D Rice and Egg |
TJ had to be on an Rx food when he was young and had mucus poops. I did the Duck and Potato (can't remember the brand name) for a few months, then changed over to NB Duck/Potato both dry and wet for a few months. |
I'm thinking about switching to NB. I'm so confused, it's so overwhelming with all of the different foods and wanting what's best for your baby. Good luck girl! |

I'm sitting here in a state of devastation. I hate the idea of using kibble for her and because of all of her health issues, the diet is either bad for one thing or another. These diets listed are high in purines which could lead to bladder and kidney problems secondary to liver issues. I feel like I would be poisoning her with any of these but I don't know what else to do. We need to see how she does on kibble/dog food and if she doesn't do well, we know it isn't the type of diet she is on causing her issues. There is no lower protein, lower fat, lower purine, no corn, no soy, no beef, no lamb, no meat from China, grain free, no ethoxyquin, BHA or BTA diets that exist in a dog food and I don't know what to do.:( |
So you are looking for a kibble? What about raw? Bravo makes a basic chicken (no organs) - you can add veggies and your own supplements  Bravo! Products - Basic Formula Chicken |
I was looking for kibble but seeing that they are all high in purines, I feel like I would be doing her a disservice, so I don't think this is doable. I forgot, she is having allergy issues also and we need a novel protein or egg. So no turkey or chicken either. No raw here and I would personall never give it to a liver compromised dog. I guess I just went full circle and am back to homecooking again. I got a diet for her (cottage cheese based) and made that. I asked specifically if I needed to use low sodium cottage cheese and the answer was no, the diet is formulated with regular sodium cc. Well, for the two days Ellie was on it, she drank 1/4 more than normal. So I had her vet fill out something online this morning for an egg white based diet and she starts reading the recipe. It calls for raw egg whites. Neither of us were too happy with that one. I can talk to her nutritionist but I wanted to see if maybe kibble would set on her stomach better but that isn't going to work. |
I feed Natural Balance Potato & Duck because of Tatum's allergies, however all of my babies love the food and they are all doing extremely well on it. They do poop a little more than they did when I was feeding Nature's Variety RAW, but the NB does seem to be helping alot more with Tate's allergies. She doesn't itch near as much as she used to. P.S. - We have all the Grain Free formulas of NB...Potato & Duck, Venison and the Fish and I haven't seen bones in any of them (and I have checked all bags because of the Wellness thing). |
we are still on the potato and duck, wicket and teddy are so so with it. can't really see any difference in their stools, also try the vension and potato but would not touch it, I don't know if it was because of the larger size kibble or not. I am still looking for a second kibble I really like the star cloud kibble, they make buddy biscuits, but theirs have garlic, but so does the buddy biscuit. I haven't found any reviews on this food either. |
The original post mentioned CN which I presume is California Naturals. I've been feeding a mix of the puppy chicken and lamb adult small bites to Joey and Sadie who are seven months and ten months old. It really agrees with them, perfectly formed stools twice a day. Sadie had a problem with mushy poops on other kibble I tried, including Solid Gold, Innova and Health Extension. But I am concerned that the protein content may be a little low in the CN. Does anyone know if this could be a problem, should i be alternating with something else? Sorry if I was supposed to start a new thread, but I am really inexperienced with this. |
I recently got my whole dog journal in the mail and natural balance is the only food wet and dry that tests every batch of food and you can get results off the internet. They test for numerous toxins |
Charlie has been on the NB duck and potatoe for a week now. He don't like it. He will only eat it if I mix in the turkey roll. He is pooping less and his poop are not black but more of a dark greenish color. |
