My gang "Thank God" had not had any tummy issues,but I keep changing because of bad press,recalls and things I've read on here. I truly would love to find a food that doesn't have "fake ingrediets" that is filling and I can stick with. :rolleyes:

I tried changing her to Wellness, and while doing the switch over from Royal Canin, she would pick out the Wellness bites, and leave them on the ground next to her bowl, and eat the rest. So then, I decided to try the Honest Kitchen, and ordered a couple samples. I tried one sample yesterday, but she gave it a couple licks, and didn't eat anymore. I still have some other flavors to try, but I'm worried that she doesn't like healthy food! I'm not about to feed her junk food though, so she's just going to have to deal with it.

I think it's probably a lot of trial and error, testing out different foods. I know I have to be careful though, cuz switching foods can hurt their tummies. I am so desperate to find a food that doesn't hurt her tummy, but that she loves!

I definitely agree with you all who say that our babies know how to work us to get what they want! That's a huge downfall in my house, and I am defintiely going to give her the food, if she doesn't eat after 10 min, take it away. That's a great idea. I just worry that she just will go hungry though, but then I realize that instinct will kick it at some time, and she will have to eat.

I'll just keep using all your suggestions, and try to figure out what is best for this little squirt....thanks guys!

P.S. I'm not sure if it's the Wellness, but Lola's poop has been kind of a dark green, which is not normal....I hope that's not bad, and it's just the food...does anyone know about this?

Dark green sounds like a form of constipation to me. Are they appear to be small and few of them as opposed to one healthy sausage?

I have been reading posts. I need help deciding on food for my Yorkie . He has been on science diet wet id. I want to get him on a good kibble. What should I feed jojo.

I have read a lot of posts and prayed a lot of prayers and finally decided on a food for my yorkies with sensitive stomachs. I Do not like Science diet. I went to a pet store and found Royal Cain mini for sensitive stomachs.the store man said between the 2 foods, do Royal Canin. Sure hope it works:p

I'm sure the Royal Canin will be fine. Also, be sure to give food at bedtime and first thing in the morning (and more frequent small meals during the day). We've found that vomiting happens most often on an empty stomach, and having food in the stomach, especially at night, helps with that.

Thanks for your wise advice. I am introducing the royal canin slowly. I hope this works. The food smells good and yorkies like it.

Just remember new food can cause diarrhea so give it some time unless it's extremly bad.

We have tried a few different foods as one of our babies is very picky. They both loved Royal Canin puppy food but my little one would not eat the adult formula. Tried Natural Instincts but Atlas did not like it. Then to the high protein Wellness but their stool was a little soft (thought it was due to the high protien). Next regular Wellness that they seemed to like the taste of better but still had soft stool. I have to point out that when we switched to Wellness, since their stool was soft, their anal glands all of a sudden started to smell... thought it was because they were getting older but eventually realized it was due to their diet. On recomendation from the guy at Choice Pets we tried Grain free Welcome Home, it is a new dog food that is made by the Lotus company (only less expensive). My babies really do like this food and their stool is perfect lol, and they no longer have stinky booties :)
With all previous foods my boys farted like crazy. Honestly, like grown man smelly farts. It was horrible. When we switched to Welcome Home they stopped farting. Or maybe they still do but we don't smell them :)

I started feeding my little 4.5 pound yorkie raw hoping to avoid tooth and gum problems with kibble. I had a canine nutritionist make recipes for me and I can leave ZIWI Peak air dried out for her snacking. I sometimes add a little cooked meat or vegetable topper along with quail eggs. The main problem is she gets stressed sometimes which causes diarrhea. I always have frozen pumpkin/yogurt treats available to help.

Yorkies have very sensitive stomachs. They cant handle table scraps. I feed my 2 yorkies Fromm turkey and pumpkin pate. They are 9yrs so they eat the senior gold Fromm dry kibble. They are doing well on this food. I have to watch what's in the yard. They eat the bird poop if I dont get to it. I highly recommend Fromm dog food. I order it from our pet shop. They really like it. I will give them teeny bites of sweet potato or hard boiled egg once in awhile. That's all. For a treat they get one Zukes mini natural chicken flavor after a walk.

I feed my yorkie Hills Science Sensitive stomach and skin. It is the only one that worked for Sophie’s sensitive tummy. RC adult and prescription formula are terrible. Not my previous yorkies and Sophie both had bad diarrhea from eating Royal canine formulas. I think the regular adult formula is too fatty and greasy for small tiny tummy. The prescription formula does not give enough nutrients. My dog was always hungry and very skinny.

Just because a food doesn't work for you doesn't mean its terrible. I have had a dog that did amazing on Royal Canin prescription food and all 4 of my now dogs are doing great on non prescription Royal Canin. Considering that vets are on staff at Royal Canin I know for a fact that it is not lacking in nutrients. At least Royal Canin hasn't killed hundreds of dogs and tried to hide the continued issues they had with their vitamins used.......

My yorkie Macy died 2 years ago almost 10 years old. She was on Royal Canine adult formula for many years and were switched to prescription Royal Canine by my vet. We got her from a reputable breeder and both her parents were Canadian champions. She got sicker and sicker as she got older and vet said she could no longer digest the protein. She passed away 1 day after being released from vet’s office. It was traumatizing.

I now have a healthy active Yorkie(not from the registered breeder) and was never sick as a puppy. When switched to adult Royal Canine, she started to have bloody diarrhea much like my previous dog and soon lost weight very quickly. Because of long years of ordeal with my previous yorkie, we are a member of a Facebook group who shares info. And I found many common issues with Royal Canine food, especially for the tiny yorkies like mine(Macy was 3.5lb full grown and Sophie is 4.25 full grown). Many owners of tinies shares the same thoughts on sensitive stomachs and RC food. And I believe my Macy’s cause of death also has some correlation to the food we fed her for many years, which was RC food. We don’t have that issue with hills science sensitive formula currently. Sophie gained the weight back, active and healthy as ever. Vet also recommended continuing to feed the hills science food. Of course We will never know for sure RC food is bad but after my experiences, I will never feed my dog RC food.

Not every food works for every dog like human diets but what bothered me is the false claims you were making like not having enough nutrients and stuff.

My bad if you felt I was making a false claim. I hope no one’s job was lost due to my comment. I was really traumatized by my experience and I was hoping other owners use this for their yorkies’ benefit.

I feed my yorkies Fromm turkey and pumpkin pate. They are 9yrs so they eat Fromm gold senior dry food. I love fromm food. Very healthy and tasty for the yorkies!

My 7-pound male yorkie has a sensitive stomach. He gets constipated, so I started giving him pumpkin which helped him allot. I feed him Fromm dry and wet food. You talk so much to pet stores, and everyone has different ideas, so I want to ask the pet owners themselves. This year he started itching, so must be allergies, so now I purchased Pet lab co. probiotic chew. After one month he still itches but not like he did before which I felt horrible. They say it could take up to three months to work, so I shall see. He's not vomiting as much but his stomach makes allot of noise and he won't eat. Any one else has these issues?? Thank you!!

My dog does not have stomach issues but he does have food and environmental allergies. When his allergies flair up which is usually in the Spring when pollen is blowing in the air my vet gives him a shot of Cytopoint. He use to get a shot every 6 to 8 weeks, now one shot twice a year.

Using a plain baby wipe and wiping back and paws gets some of the pollen off them, this may help your pup. Check with your vet about the Cytopoint to help with his allergies.

The people in the pet store know nothing about food. Your best bet is a Vet or a vet nutritionist. Itching is generally allergies but their really is not over the counter fix you need to go to the Vet to get an appropriate medication for dog like cytopoint. Food allergies are rare but always require prescription foods. Vomiting really isn't normal and it really sounds like he needs to go to the Vet and you might have multiple issues going on.

I guess I have been lucky. None of my yorkies have had sensitive tummies but my golden all have had to varying degrees.

My current yorkie Ripley was originally fed Diamond naturals and is presently transitioning to FROMM

:)I have been feeding my yorkie no grain. Fromm dry and wet dog food. I think the Petlabco. probiotic started to work after 6 weeks . he might itch once or twice a day. It states can take up to 3 months so I shall see. I don't know what his sensitive stomach is from. A guessing game for now.

You might want to do a bit of research on grain free.... there are many issues pooping up with the ingredients being used in gran free foods and a possible link to heart disease. Grains are not evil and bad so there is no need to stay away from them.
