olive oil is it safe to put just a drop of olive oil in Gizzies food? She is so fussy with her food and was thinking of adding just a drop, not even half a teaspoonful just to give it a little extra flavor. what do you think:confused: |
That is a good question!? Growing up, I had a black lab named Simon, and he had real dry, flakey skin, and the vet (back then) told my parents to put olive oil over his dry food, and within weeks, his skin was so bright and shiny, and not as flakey! So, I guess it wouldn't be harmful, but I would maybe call your vet just to be safe! :animal-pa |
Just remember that olive oil is very high in calories / fat, and you may need to adjust food balance accordingly. |
That shouldn't hurt most dogs but because it is high in fat, I would use something else like low fat yogurt. No artificial sweeteners though. |

ya in a small amount it is ok. I have started adding some to Layla's diet (she has pancreas issues however her nutritionist said she needs SOME fat in her diet so she gets 1-2 drops a day) and she is doing just fine with it! It's a "good" fat. |
Salmon oil is good, chester gets it on his wet food every nite, good for coat and allergies. |
Yes olive oil is so good for you, and your dog. I've used it directly on my dogs tummy, because of a rash, my vet said that it might be the food she's eating. Evidently people and dogs are sometimes highly allergic to it. I also make a paste of olive oil, brown sugar and sea salt to scrub my dry hands with. It's magical!! |
