I Don't Know What's Wrong With Her!
 
Hi, new to the forum so pls bare with me!! Ok, so my puppy's name is Coco and ever since we got her, she hasn't been going to potty well. Or at least I don't think she has! I really don't know how to explain it, to me it looks like loose stool .... (not diarreah though) We've given her antibiotics, thinking she might have a little tummy virus and that hasn't helped, she'll be fine while on the antibiotics but as soon as she comes off of them she'll go back to the same way, she doesn't look sick, because she plays around just fine, and eats her food and drinks plenty of water!! Someone told me she might have worms, but i'm not to sure that she has any!! Can anyone help? :confused:

Has your vet did a fecal test to check for parasites?

actually we haven't taken her to the vet yet, since my husband works out of town we've been with him in a small town where we don't know how good the vets are, so as soon as we go home it'll be the first thing we do!! Now, is giardia bad? what are some other symptoms to that?

She was eating eukanuba puppy for small breed food ... then we changed her to VF they told me that would work better since it doesn't have corn as an ingredient she was doin somewhat better, but then my husband got her some training treats called nature's recipe from petsmart which I read have corn starch and corn syrup, might that be what's causing it??

How did you get the antibiotic then? What type did you use? Different ones work for different problems.

my mother gave it to me, she has a yorkie too and the vet gave her antibiotic for hers since hers had a tummy virus.

Sometimes over feeding will make their stool a little on the softer side...try feeding less, more frequently. I feed my pups 3 times a day. What food are you feeding her? It's good to feed them a premium kibble. If that doesn't work, then you should take in a fecal sample. Has she been dewormed? vaccinated?

yes, she's been dewormed and vaccinated .... i have the records of all of that from the person that we got her from .... I don't think it's overeating, what I do know is that when I take her out to potty she loves playing in the grass and the dirt and I've caught her eating grass and licking the dirt!

Please don't give her any medication that hasn't been prescribed directly to her. That is very dangerous. By giving her antibiotics (that haven't even been approved or determined necessary) and then taking her off of them before the prescribed amount of time is giving her a resistance to them which can be very bad.

She needs to get to a vet quickly. If it is diarhea, she can dehydrate rapidly which can cause death in a very short amount of time. Please find a vet to take her to tommorow.

Maybe. When I give treats to my babies...their stool will be on the softer side. I use plain boiled chicken for training treats. Trust me, my pup learned how to sit, down, up, hand instantly. Better for their tummy & you'll get results faster. What is VF? Remember when switching food, do it gradually in 5-7 days (or they get diarrhea). You can also try boiled white rice or canned pumpkin (not the pie filling kind), it firms up their stool.

Not to alarm you but I heard that dogs can pick up roundworm eggs from digging dirt. This website has lots of info & pictures. Beware pictures of poop! :eek: Diarrhea In The Dog and Cat and Its Causes in ThePetCenter.com The best would be to go see a vet as soon as you can if you're concerned. They can also prescribe the right meds & hopefully your baby's poop will be ok again!

thanks for the info .... I will be going back to my hometown this weekend so I'll be taking her in to my vet .... I checked out the website, however none of those pics look like what she does. On the plus side I stopped giving her those treats all day yesterday and she seems to be doing better! She didn't potty overnight, which she did while on her old food and on the treats. She's never had diarreah really, it's just that her stool is on the softer side and I know that's not normal! The good thing is she's always eaten fine, drinks plenty of water, and is oh so very hyper!! So I know she's not too bad! Oh well, we'll see what the vet says!

oh by the way, VF is puppy food called Veterinarian Formula it's the only food I've been able to find that contains no corn as an ingrediant!! (so far)

Antibiotics only helps with a bacterial infection. If it's a virus the medication will not have an effect, and sorry but there is no medication to treat a virus...you would just have to let it run its course. Hope ure baby gets better:)
