My 4 1/2 month old Yorkie is humping... Is this normal behavior for this age? |
Our little gentleman, Higgins, has been humping his blankie since we got him at 7 1/2 weeks of age!!! Don keeps telling him that he is going to blind, but..... :D |
LOL These little guys are so funny!!! He makes these little grunts, too! |
Oh yeah.....they really get into it! When he was little, Higgins used to get humpin' so fast that both his rear legs came right up off the ground! It was toooo funny! I haven't seen him hump anything lately, so maybe he is growing up a bit and being a little more discreet......or maybe he's listening to his "daddy" and just doesn't want to go blind......heh heh...... |
keep those casanova's away from my Toto!! OK! Higgin's Mom & MickeyTheYork ... keep those casanova's away from my Toto!! ;) Had a friend with a Peke who favored the patio drape ... or a towel ... or a guy's leg .... come to think of it Dusty didn't cull anything!! And he didn't care who he did it in front of either! :D It is funny!! |
My Yoda started humping around 6 months. He has a stuffed cat and a stuffed dog he uses to do his thing with. Just make sure your Yorkie doesn't start humping someone's leg. That's not a good thing... |
Archie only humps my friend Susan's leg (he's 7 mos. old). Very weird. Maybe it was her socks. Archie has a sock fetish--he steals them in the middle of the night and keeps them in a little corner in the bedroom. |
Hercules is 3 months and when he was introduced to a Lamb Chop puppet, he started to hump it. We were very surprised!! |
Yep, chester was doing that a a very eairly age. His towel, his toys, anything he could find. He even did it a bit after he was neutered  never figured that one out |
HA! I have you all beat! Binky started at 6.5 weeks. He has stopped, or at least does it when Im not around. I kept telling him no when he did it, and he knows the word NO very well, so I think he does it privately now. |
Rudy my little toot would do it but would really want to do it after they had a bath. He would even try to hump Lucky and poor Maddie would just sit down real fast. Since he has been neutered he doesn't do, which I am suprised because he is very strong willed................cindy |
my cecilia started humping a few months ago. I wasn;t aware that the female did this. But i guess some aggressive females do. She tryibg to be the alpha dog. |
"Humping isn't always sexual" Alpha dog is right! You will see male dogs humping male dogs too - no that does not mean they are homosexual. lol. It means one is exhibiting dominance over the other. If your Yorkie ever tries to hump your foot or leg DON't let him or her! This isn't sexual, this is domiance. |
Years ago I owned a darling little female Chihuahua. She weighed 4 pounds and was spayed. At that time we also owned a female, spayed Maine Coon cat, who was about three times the size of the Chihuahua. Both "girls" were great friends and enjoyed HUMPING each other!!!!! Now just how would you describe that couple in a politically correct manner???? At one time we also owned a truly fabulous little mutt that was part poodle, part terrier. She was a female and we had her spayed. HOWEVER, this little darlin' was the town pump! She just LOVED to have male dogs hump her! And they DID!!! We had neighbors with an old Dachshund and they would call up and ask us to keep Raggedy Ann indoors for awhile because their little Roosevelt was exhausted from all the sex! I called the vet and asked him if he had taken all her female parts OUT and he assured me he did. Told me that some females just keep enjoying sex after a hysterectomy just like humans! Sometimes animals can be S-T-R-A-N-G-E........ |
Hi! I am new to this site, and new to the situation. My grandpuppy started humping today, and it had me concerned. I didn't think lil girls did this, either. Should I let her, she is only doing it to her toy stuffed animals. |
lol......... toby gets into it BIG TIME with this toy snake of his, hopefully when we get him neutered it will stop the urge to do it so often..... toby is 4 and a half months as well |
She's right....it is not about the SEX.... As mentioned by YorkiPower...it is not about the sex. It is essentially a dominance thing. Any small breed dog...or any dog finding itself on the "lower end of the pecking order" will attempt to dominate.....it's the alpa-dog 'wanna-be'...Do not allow this to happen...(as really funny as it seems). Do not yell at or hit the dog...but quickly give a growl and firmly hold their back and sort-a "hold down" (not being mean or hurting the pup)...the hand gripping and showing YOUR dominance is similar to the teeth action from a REAL dominant dog. I don't want anyone to get the impression I wish to make dogs soooooo submissive....but the human MUST be the alpha-dog / pack-leader or things can get out of control down the road.....once a dog learns his / her "place" in the pack they are totally happy and actually more secure knowing they don't have to prove themselves all the time. A similar situation is a puppy / dog that jumps into your lap and into your face....this, too, is an act of dominance. Better than sit, stay, come...is the understanding that the puppy DOES NOT jump on anyone unless invited....and if your babies are as cute as they look, getting invited doesn't take long.... Have a great day! |
I'd never seen Bentley hump anything until we were around another yorkie. He jumped on her and started going at it. It's funny because he does not hump anything else or any other type of dog, just the yorkies (and he doesn't discriminate, he will hump male or female yorkies) :p |
Hahaha My puppy gets made fun of and teased by everyone because he tries to hump one of his toys. He doesn't hump people, though, so I don't see a problem with it. I say let the little fella have his fun, afterall, he'll be getting neutered soon enough. :) |

Luca Dean DOESN'T hump anything, and it worries me!!! Is he asexual? Ha Ha. Guess I should count my blessings. My terrier mix loves to hump big dogs -- male or female! But only big dogs -- it's the dominance thing. I guess Luca Dean understands how he is never gonna be alpha dog around here and just doesn't bother trying? |
humping yorkies Hi, this is very funny!! My little yorkie (Oscar) starting humping his plush pig at seven weeks, he now humps my hand when I pick him up. It is funny to watch but I have realised he is making a play for leadership so I am very careful how I hold him now (he still humps his toys though)!!! |
Thank you for this thread! I totally thought Tobi was a lil horn dog when I saw him humping at 12 weeks!!! I even counted how many times he'd hump his blanket in one day (13 is his record)....he even tried to hump my arm once (and proceeded to hump air when I put him down). I hope he doesn't move on to legs any time soon. |
I didn't like it when Pepper was humping, it looked cute at the beginning but he started getting too much into it and was getting the 'red lipstick' out  . I had him neutered at 6 months and it pretty much solved the problem. He barely starts humping anymore and I let him know I don't like it... He never attempted humping people though. The only toy he sometimes is trying to hump - it looks like a dominance thing as Pep and the toy are the same size - is resting on the wardrobe for now. He knows that and sits in front of the thing and stares at the top. Too funny coz he can't really see up there anyway... |
Dyggy "the humpmeister" Osborne starting humping at 9 weeks old. He is a machine!!!! lol He doesnt do it a lot but he is so desperate he will hump air! |
This is funny but Bruizer humps and sleeps with only one toy. His stuffed yorkie that i put a bow in it hair to make it look like a little girl yorkie. he will even go get it when I tell him "get your girlfriend Bruizer". I think he needs a real girlfriend. |
